Recommend a Brilliant Album A brilliant album please.
Something that can be heard from beggining to end. Something grows on you and doesnt' fizzle over the initial listening. Thanks.

If you want mellow and brilliant,
Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite. I've turned so many on to that CD. You will in turn do the same. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Peggy Suicide (of course, it's not BRILLIANT, but as brilliant as Julian Cope gets. )

ya know right now i just cant think of anything new.
i think you listen to r&b much but curtis mayfield should be somebody to look into. the soundtrack to "sparkle" "claudine" and "superfly" are my faves of his productions and they are really good.

This is definitely not for every day listening, but the next time you need a soundtrack while you're peering into the depths of your soul, I'd recommend Gavin Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet. [Edited 2/24/06 18:39pm]

Eryka Badu World Wide Underground Often overshadowed by Mamma's gun, but I actually prefer this one more.

brownsugar said: thats all i can think of right now very much a slept on classic! I pull it out and put it on at least once a month. I'd also recommend "Bitter" by Me'Shell Ndegeocello. Not funky like her other efforts, but no less brilliant. Very deep record. Also, "A Love Supreme" and "Impressions" by John Coltrane. I'm 24 years old, and I often wonder why I'm just now discovering all of this brilliant jazz from before my time. Those are some that recommend...

Mamma's gun was great. But to me (and I know I"m commiting blasphemy by sayint this), it felt too stylistic, too formulaic. WWU had all these elements too--I just think she got away with it this time. It feels looser and more confident. Again, I understand I could get stoned for saying that.

gemini13 said: Pink Floyd could have their own catagory of brilliant both in concept, construction, and execution. There are so many great albums by them where would one start. They were always that band that couldnt' give a rat's ass what everyone thought, and yet everyone loved them. I even like ~gasg~ the division Bell. High Hopes from that album is my favorite digestable floyd song.
