So what did SLy do????
Did he play with the Family Stone?
I don't have the opurtunity to see the grammys.
/peace Manki

he came out, played behind a keyboard for a minute, mumbled a couple lines of "I wanna take you higher," waved to the audience and left. If the Family Stone were there, I didn't see them...

whatever ...I hate how people get defensive over things that are not defensible...She can't sing live. Shes a studio artist and not a very god one there either. She can't sing who cares if she gets emotional...she always pulls that emotional card to cover up the fact that she can't sing. Damn how many times do we have to see her sound awful live before people just acknowledge it. id you see her perfomrance during that Aretha Franklin Tribut on BET..she was horrible! She chick can't sing asnd its ok to be real about

U know...

Mariah USE to be a good singer...studio and live..studio work is wonderful! .I dunno what happened since the whole public debacle incident back a few years ago..maybe she has lost her nerve...but she breathes in the middle of flows when she shouldn't...she oversings when she doesn't need to...sometimes I wanna give her a hug and a ice cream cone...to tell her it will be okay lol

I was talkin gabout Mary J Bliege...Mariah I think can still sing but she was clearly off tonight. Bliege has marginal talent. Carey is the real deal

Jamie Foxx is a striking singer and pianist, when he wants to be. That intimate How Come U Don't Call Me vibe works for him better. He thinks because the game works this way, that he has to run laps around the machine, like a good piker. Stars are in somebodies eyes, when they should be watching the road.

A couple of things

Mariah was extremly nervous or something because that chick can blow and cleary she was off

Mary J Bliege is an average singer at best and doesn't belong on the same stage as some of these artist. Its amazing how that chick just gets over year after year after year...despite the fact that people can hear that she can't sing

Its simply amazing

Oh yeah Kanye West is a complete asshole and has about as much musical talent as I do and less of an ear. He will be all but forgotten 5 years from now and the biggest difference between he and Prince is that Prince is a Musician not a hustler trying make money in an industry that has completely Whored itself out and is hollow to developing real talent because these fucking hip hop artist can do it so much cheaper
[Edited 2/8/06 18:59pm]

First

Here's the thing about Mary J....sometimes she's on, and sometimes she's off...I remember seeing U2 and Mary J Blige on the Katrina Telethon and she came off rather soulful and in control...This Grammy performace was somewhere in the middle, where she starts off with control but goes fucking crazy and loses her damn mind (LOL); But hey, when you have somebody that sings from the heart like that sometimes it's more about the feeling than actual technique...

Second...seeing Sly was fucking surreal...the mohawk man...WOW

Third...You can pile on Kanye West for being an asshole all day (hey, i do it sometimes...) But to say that the man is a talentless whore is a a little off base....AND....CAN WE PLEASE STOP LUMPING ALL HIP-HOP ARTISTS IN THE SAME BOX...If you can't see the artistic merit in the likes of Common, Kanye, Nas, Jay-Z(when he's inspired), OutKast, and Rakim then go back to your nursing home (LOL...just jokes, but I'm saying...) Prince is my favorite artist and will always be ranked among the immortals...But shitting on newer artists to boost up our boy is pointless and silly....Let the current artists like Kanye enjoy their success...

Fourth--

It was cool to see Paul MAC do his thing with Jay Z...very interesting, and weird...but in a cool way...

of cours your right...I can see how someone could mistake my comments about HIp Hop to think I was talking about everyone.

Of course I'm talking ones that Whore themselves like yes JZ, 50 cents and yes Kanye who hires Adam Levin to produce his albumn because he doesn't have the artistic skills to bring that kind of influence himself.

Comon, Most Def, Trib Called Quest were my boys back in the day, clear OutKast and yes there are other but they are not driving Hip Hop right now thos eother cats are

Interesting Kanye performance. "Golddigger" would be a perfect Greek stepping song. Has the perfect beat.

Speaking as a Greek, I'd have to say NO!! Not "perfect" at least. That would be "More Bounce..." and "Atomic Dog". cool

As I said just yesterday, Donny Hathaway's recording of A Song for You is one of my favorite recordings. I'm picky with other covers of that song. Herbie and Christina's version is good, and they worked well together. I like it when she sings and keeps her clothes on.

you're not the only one. i thought that was a nice performance by Herbie and Christina.

Murph says...

Respect...But I think you are a little bit misinformed..Adam Levine didn't produce anything...he sung on the hook while West produced the track and the majority of his album...The dude is a producer who also raps...Go pick up Common's and John Legends's album to see some Kanye's work...If you want to say you hate the man because he's an asshole then that's cool...(But he wouldn't be the first asshole in music now would he?)...

Murph says: You have good taste...But remember those artists that you just named will tell you that they love Jay-Z...Again, there's a huge difference between media-driven act like 50 Cent and Jay Z...If you can't see the difference, do a little bit more research....Cool?

I'm not sure who these awards are for.

Even an average music fan has seen Madonna, Mariah, U2, John Legend, Kanye West ....etc... perform all these songs already and in much better form.

This show is not only awful in it's set list, but the visual and audio production is totally off.
