Could Sly'tribute' have been any WORSE?!!

This so-called 'Tribute' was tired, ragged and AWFUL. I bet Prince & Larry Graham were banging their heads against the wall watching that travesty.

The Grammy organisers didn't even bother to get some pedigree artists to honour Sly. They merely opted for (aside from Arerosmith) for some fashionable, 'of-the-moment' chart 'stars' to attract audiences.

I've read there will be an 'tribute' album with the same-artists coming soon. A turkey in stores and its not even Christmas.

I appreciate seeing Sly and I have much love and respect for his music, but he looked terrible, about 20 years older than his 61 years. His keyboard playing was slow and practically inaudible.

His voice seemed okay, but as soon as that started singing he swaggered/staggered off, leaving the motley crew of assembled 'artists' to try to out-do each other until the dire medley thankfully came to its conclusion.

The entire shambles left me with just one question:

HOW COULD A SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE MEDLEY SOUND FUNK-LESS?

Because it was organized by the Grammys. Nile had some input but i'm sure the Grammy board wanted the new artists. Had E.W.& F, Prince, D'angelo, Rapheal Saddiq, Stevie Wonder, George Clinton and (I almost hate to say it) Lenny Kravitz had been up there, it would have been a little different.

THAT would have been great. And don't feel bad about including Lenny. At least the guy can play, and he's got an appreciation for the funk.

I just happened to be looking through Rolling Stone magazine the other night and discovered that there is a tribute album out for Sly Stone. And the thing is... All the artists that were onstage with him at the Grammy's are on the album. This leads me to believe that the Grammy performance was just a way to hype this album. They didn't care anything about honoring Sly. What a crock!
