Niles Rodgers,Joss Stone, the lead singer of Maroon 5,Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas,John Legend,Steve Tyler and another member of Aerosmith,Fantasia,Ciara, and several other people. I fast forward straight to Sly... Didn't want to see the others.. Especially Will.i.am...

Yeah.He played keyboards and sang for a bit, then left the stage after about three minutes...while everyone else was still jamming! I love it! Nile Rodgers is cool but if they had put me on a stage with all those newcomers, I would have walked off too.....after giving them the finger. Thank you Sly. Too bad Prince didn't do the same thing two years ago. Andy is a four letter word.

it was sought of hilarious to me...Sly still looked a tad high...and when he left everybody else had this look on their face like "oh no he didn't, i didn't go through all these damn hours in rehearsal for him to just up and leave after 2 seconds of performing...should i leave too"? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Sly being Sly.. yeah, that part was kinda funny. The other artists looked awkward and confused when Sly left the stage. They tried to play it off,but I know they weren't expecting him to leave so suddenly.

Same here! I just wished he had stayed out onstage a little longer. Yep. Granted I only saw like 5 seconds of him singing Higher on some news program (I have it taped just haven't watched the whole program yet) I thought he looked cool and sounded alright. Made me happy to see him, not sad cause he's not what he use to be. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I missed it (after McCartney, I started watching my DVR of Lost, then went to bed) - so it really looked like Sly walking off wasn't part of the performance?

I have a question for those of you who feel that Sly's performance should be accepted. Just because an artist has reached the heights that Sly Stone has, And has been an inspiration to generations od musicians that have came after him. Should we accept just any kind of performance from them even if they are rarely seen in public or hardly ever perform anymore? I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone but the Sly Stone I saw last night was uninspired. I think that rather then give a performance like that, He should've turned down the Grammy's request when they asked him to play. Instead of performing, He should've just came out and had words. That would've been better then what we saw last night.

Sly was always an individual, and his appearance did not surprise me at all. In fact I am glad that he showed up... (He had a habit of not showing up) The fact that he didn't sing much didn't bother me, it was a tribute to him. It was great to see Sly, again. . . People say he looked high or whatever but the curvature of his spine may be causing him tremendous pain. We just don't know. I guess it's best to bash someone without knowing the truth. I truly believe his performance should be accepted. It was worth watching the horrible spectacle the Grammys have become to get a glance of him, performance or not. I don't know how anyone expected to hear hhis voice anyway with dozens of no-singing bastards drowning him out.

I don't blame any of the mediocrity of that performance on Sylvester Stewart. First and foremost... there were way too many folks on that stage. The Family Stone (sans Larry) was there but nobody knew it because of all of the people on stage. If that was indeed Sly's last public appearance, then I blame NARAS for putting all those bastards on stage at the same time. I like a lot of those folks but... it wasn't the proper time place nor manner for them. This is the re-emergence of Sly and the Family Fuckin' Stone... you need to trim the fat... and focus on the goal... I'm so pissed right now... Hell, if I was Sly I woulda walked off mid-performance too. Co-sign on all of that. The mohawk...hey it's Sly. Every time they went to the commercial break and showed that footage of Sly and Co. singing "Higher", I got hyped and ready to give up the FUNK. I was disappointed they didn't do "Thank You" but that's Larry Graham's signature song. Other than that, May the funk live on.

What you saw last night was not Sly's fault. The man who dominated Woodstock with Jimi Hendrix was sharing a stage with motherfucking Ciara, Will.i.am and Joss Stone... all of whom were given more stage time. The man re-emerges with 85 % of the band that catapulted him to fame and he gets that lousy ass re-introduction to the world? Like I said on another board... time should have stood still for a few seconds. This is my point... and your opinion is what I think is wrong with the music consuming public when it comes to musical legends. You just witnessed a musical god on stage last night. A man who doesn't HAVE to prove shit anymore because he did it from 1967 through 1973. Instead of accepting his appearance for what it is... you knuckleheads come forth with a "What has he done for me lately?" attitude. Do you want me to tell you what kind of inspiration do you truly expect from a 62 year old man, whose life has been affected by severe drug abuse and a stroke? The inspiration came from the fact that he showed up to be seen after 13 years and to perform after 30 years. That's your fucking inspiration RIGHT THERE. P.S. and for those who are hung up on the mohawk and gold lame suit... Do your research and you'll realize that Sly was never an ordinary dresser. Wore the biggest afro wigs and some of the most outlandish garb in the history of music... but he was still the shit. [Edited 2/9/06 9:55am]
