Pick up a copy of Guilty Pleasures and listen to it a few times and you'll get her. A singer who can actually sing - imagine.

My best friend is a Barbra Streisand fan so I know her music. Music that sucks ass big big time - "...Papa can you hear me???" - Puking - imagine. smile

Her music with Barry Gibb, first on Guilty, now on Guilty Pleasures, is quite different than her other music. If Guilty Pleasures was a Prince production instead of a Barry Gibb production, this board would be raving about how good it is.

There is much more to a song than the words. If that wasn't the case, we'd all just read poetry. Sorry but I still don't "get" this cat

the way i feel about dylan is this: he's so be felt more than he is to be understood and sometimes heard. all those people who sit around and analyze the mans lyrics for "deeper" meaning give me a good laugh. i'm more inclined to sit there enjoy the music, and his voice, and if possible the words. its like i love the song ballad of a thin man, but i have no idea what he's talkin about. or i and i where i cant understand any of the words bsides the chorus. its like i said, he's to be felt moreso than understood or heard (sometimes i just drown out his voice altogether and listen to the music or words)

So wouldn't it be better if he just wrote the songs and let someone who could actually sing, sing them? What good is a brilliant lyric if nobody can understand a word he sings? And not because he's putting a musical effect into the lyric, but rather simply because he mumbles.

no not really. some dude said that noone can sing bob dylan like bob dylan and its true. an example is blowing in the wind. u got dylans version and stevies version 4 example.
i love both versions, but on dylans version his voice makes me feel what he's saying..like the way he's singing it. on stevies i just like it.

imo dylan can sing. he may not have the best voice, but i like it and so do other people. everybody brings something different to song (janis joplin summertime and fantasia's summertime 4 example) i dont think it would be the same if dylan just wrote songs for OTHER people to sing them. ballad of a thin man wouldnt be wat it is if someone else sang it. or subterreanean homesick blues, that song wouldnt be as funny or the same if someone else sang it. same for highway 61 and many other songs. they just wouldnt be the same. and u know dylan doest ALWAYS mumble, sometimes he does but u can usually make out what he's saying

Nothing about him, the best I have ever seen in him is maybe a song here and there that gets stuck in my head due to constant airplay, but it soon becomes annoying.

Never saw anything in his "dancing"

Mariah Carey

I love her voice but aside from that, her music really doesn't move me.
We Belong Together will undoubtably be the hit of the year yet i don't understand the supposed greatness to the song.

I was being ironic, just pointing out the image most people have of the Dutchies.

And Doe Maar has to be my favourite group from the Netherlands. wink

Did anyone see that episode of South Park where one of the characters becomes a member of a Goth gang. "To join our gang of non-conformists you have to dress exactly like us and listen to the same music that we do". Priceless!

My list by the way would include:
QUEEN (Overblown rock operatics. I blame Pete Townshend!)
JANIS JOPLIN (Bought a 2 CD Ultimate Collection to check out the fuss. Excruciatingly annoying woman screaming? I get that at home already!)
COLDPLAY (ZZZZZ)
PINK FLOYD (Stoner noodling? Psychedelic brass band music? Gimme the first album with Syd Barrett and forget the rest)
PAUL WELLER (Once a great singer and songwriter with The Jam and TSC, covered a vast spectrum of musical styles. Now content with repeating the same turgid rock style for the past ten years)
ERIC CLAPTON (Sure Cream were ok but solo? No thanks)
UB40 (once quite a cool band until they decided to become a novelty cabaret reggae band)

nod After seeing it in all of those Greatest Albums of all time polls, and always seeing it compared to Peter Gabriel, I went out and bought it. I gave it 2 or 3 spins, but I just couldn't see what people heard in this album. Needless to say, I traded it in shortly after.
