Lisa Stansfield's music was (and I suspect still is) mature-- the kids don't gravitate to that. Also she's been around for awhile so they're not going to push her like the new girls. Besides, Lisa got some airplay back in the day. She just happened to be one of the few artists that deserved the hype and has been able to make a good living doing what she presumably loves. That was rhetorical wasn't it? Lisa has a decent voice. | |

i think this whole, "white guys/gals venturing into black guys/gals music" is crap. All modern music was basically black music once, so what the fuck are we sayin?
now, if you want to diss Timberlake, fine. He's a damn good dancer though. Shame Justified only had three good tracks - the big singles. Eminem is a hugely talented guy. Nas is still probably my favourite rapper though. Vanilla Ice - he was never "rated" was he? How can he be overrated? He was always a laughing stock. And the Joss Stone thing - damn, that girl has a brilliant voice. So do loads of other people, but it's more a beauty thing, not about colour. There are shit loads of black and white women who have good voices, but have basically made it ahead of others with good/better voices, because they're pretty. Simple as that. | |

Music has no colour:
- Irish celtic music finds his origin in India. Emigrants from India originally brought this music, via eastern europe, to the Irish Island. - Black Techno is influenced a lot by europeans bands as Kraftwerk and Neu - Black rappers sometimes use samples of classical european composers - Indeed, Prince did use influences from The Beatles, Stravinsky, Brecht and Weill etc during his 1985 - 1987 period.....so what? I could go on forever with examples like this, but, face it and see it as a positive aspect, musical styles have (black, white, african, eastern whatever) have been mixed trough the ages, and this will allways be the case.... whether its a singer with a dark skin singing music that origins from Europe, or a guy with a yellow skin singing Heavy Metal.... I mean as long as its good music, isnt that what its all about? Oh yeah, and the most underrated 'white' musician doing 'black' music is Van Morrison | |

----- Do you really think Eminem get so much praise because he is just a good MC or do you think he gets it because he is white. Well, of course, him being white has a lot to do with his success, but you gotta think about it like this. Because of corny-ass rappers like Vanilla Ice and Marky Mark, white rappers weren't really to well-recieved. Em sort of changed that. Not only was he white, but he acutally had some things that other white rappers before him didn't have - superb lyrical skill, originality, creativity, sarcasm, etc. Look at the concepts for "Guilty Conscious" and "Stan" - thats genius shit. His rhyme manuvearing is crazy. Em's a funny muthafucka too. Im black and if you ask any hiphop head/fan, they'll tell you the same. Honestly, alot of black community really don't give a much a damn about him anymore cause he's more of a spokesperson of the white community, but we know there aint no denying that he can rhyme his ass like crazy. ----- Do you really think Eminem get so much praise because he is just a good MC or do you think he gets it because he is white. Elton John is going around comparing him to Jimi Hendrix. Time Maganzine put in as one of the most influencial artist. Do you think Time would have done that for "Chuck D" or Public Enemy. Eminem gets praise because he's a good rapper. He gets more attention, probably, because he's white, true. But the praise is all about his abilities. | |

I also have never heard of a "Black Music" genre of music. You have to be a free thinker. Like what you like not what someone else tells you to like. ----- We don't like the artist because they suck(LOL) They get a pass by the media and a lot of hype because they are white. However, it the end only the truly talnated last so it all works out in the end. NO such thing as black music but RnB and Rap are considered the main genre of music for African-Americans. I include Rock and Roll because we invented it but a lot of other people don't. | |

The funny thing is, I 'd rather hear Joss than most "so-called r&b singers today . like Beyonce or Mary J Blige , who is often way off-key (Did you hear Mary J on that Tsunami special a few months ago ? Painful) Joss sings more like a real Soul singer like her mentor Betty White, than these howling r&b thrushes who twaddle on and on with their overdone melisma . And looks always count in music, especially these days. Do you think Beyonce would be as big as she is today if she looked liked Martha Wash ?? Well some people would rather listen to Joss Stone then Aretha etc anyways--those ones who can sing, because they are more commfortable with rnb from its offshoots. | |

Music is music and people are people.
But.... I WONDER.....Maybe Pat Boone is the king of Rock and Roll. If you've ever seen the old clip of him singing "Tutti Frutti" Pat didn't snap his fingers on the 1, 2, 3 or the m***** f***** four. (As our bass player Cal would say.) Pat didn't sing in any vicinity of the beat. And he did it with a straight face. Folks, Pat Boone may have had some syncopated s*** going on that was above our heads and we need to go back and study this footage again. This could have been the orgin of "Republican Soul" made famous over the years by..... Oh you guys know the groups. | |
