Call My Name Vs. On the Couch Who elce agrees that On the Couch is miles better? | |

Argggh! Tough one, but I have to go with Call My Name. It has that R&B feel that I grew up on, so it's personal opinion. On The Couch is more Bluesy, which is great. But the hook (chorus) on Call My Name
"I just can't stop writin' songs about ya, I love you so much. I just can't wait to get my arms around ya, and feel your touch. If I don't see ya real soon, baby girl I might go insaaaaane. I know its only been 3 hours, but I love it when you call my name... Honey won't you call...CALL...Call My Name (screams), Call, call my name." My girl would wet her pants, if I said that to her.  The ending of the song represents what I love about Prince. That raw emotion, that you can't help but to believe is real.

On the Couch. Prince takes lyrical, sensual tension and melds the music to convey it perfectly. It's a musical lesson in restraint and tension in the model of the Aladdin version of "Gotta Broken Heart Again."
Call My Name is an entirely different kind of song, where Prince is just all a-gush about his wife. A sap-a-thon, if you will. Good song, though. Really, all the two have in common are their ballad tempos. | |

Call My Name just seems soooo flat to me. He's done a dozen other songs just like this one. |

Although I like both songs, On the Couch gets the nod from me. It's just really stripped down and you can feel Prince's semi-paranoia at the thought of his lover making him leave the bed. And I love the way the blusey church organ just simmers below the surface. THIS IS NOT MUSIC, THIS IS A TRIP! | |
