What is the MM cover of "Personal Jesus" from? A soundtrack or new album? I'd really like to hear this. He usually has a pretty cool take on his covers.

Did anyone hear the cover Jonny Cash did of this on his last album? I absolutely loved it!

Personal Jesus is gonna be on Manson's greatest hits CD in the Fall. It'll also come with a DVD of all of Manson's videos. It should be cool.

Johnny Cash did a great cover of Hurt, by NIN.

I don't agree with EWM's opinion on this album, or on many of the recent Prince releases. That having been said, I just don't get why folks have to start calling him an "idiot" because he isn't following along with the majority here. I got a taste of this recently, when I was called names, and told my opinion was worthless because I disliked D'Angelo's "Voodoo". Why is it that people can't debate these points without silly name calling? EWM and I have debated MANY times on here, and we rarely agree when it comes to Prince, yet we've always had a mutual respect for one another. His opinion is just as valid as anyone who praises "Musicology", and he at least backs up his opinion with proper analysis. Many folks just get on here and say "it sucks" or "its the greatest recording ever", but don't present any valid points to back up these statements. Personally, I'd rather have someone who presents an honest opinion, with criticisms to back it, than have someone who blindly dismisses or loves something.

I get this sometimes too. Some people never grow up and are still little babies. When you say something that they are scared to hear, they lash out at you on a personal level. But just ignore their comments because they are little children and you can't take them seriously.

Cool! Looking forward to that! (although, as with all greatest hits, I know I'll be bitching when certain gems are left off)

Totally agree with you on the Hurt cover. Friggin' fantastic!! The video's great too!

This is great. We got all the haters in one place. Now if we could just convince them to go somewhere and start a hateprince site that would be wonderful. But u know why that won't happen? Because they simply love to spew their negativity here. It gets them off. Anyone who dislikes an artist yet spends an inordinate amount of time at that artist's fan site has emotional issues. Its one thing to not like something here or there, but to constantly complain and disparage is sick. U know the type they ruin the party everytime because they are so damn miserable as people that they have to thrust their miserableness on everyone else. The only excuse for this behavior is if they are under 14 years old.

Ahh, so EvilWhiteMale is trying to bore us to death with his new thread. I wonder if this is a new form of child abuse, not getting the attention he didn't get as a kid. With the exception of his reply on this thread(which is tollerable), the new thread is pretty boring and irritating. I'll admit, it's a good deal better than his previous posts, but it's so lame compared to what he's capable of. I thought he really wanted a comeback. I guess he'll just do it with his old dead horse-beaten opinion this week. For someone who's so into Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Tori Amos, Slipknot, Kittie, No Doubt, and Korn, Prince seems to be all he truly cares about.

If you're bored, why respond to this?

Evil white male I'd like to know what old stuff do you like. The thing is Prince is old. When you get old you just don't rock like you used to.

That doesn't mean you have to play old man music.

I personally loved the rainbow children. I think it flowed better than an album since the symbol album. He is into the Jazz thing now.

Unfortunately.

I haven't heard musicology yet but I can say that after as many records as he's put out it may be more difficult to find inspiration.

I totally agree. That's why I call his new music "dry wood."

How good was NIRVANA's stuff after NEVERMIND.

It was fantastic. In Utero was an awesome record, and the final song "You Know You're Right" is a classic.

How good will the WHITE STRIPES be if they are lucky enough to survive in the music business for 25 years. Think about it.

Some artists are capable of going the long run. Prince has accomplished a whole lot but that doesn't mean he has to be dired up. I know he can do more exciting stuff, but I think he chooses not to.

half of the staff in their brain is on vacation!!

This place would be much less interesting if all the so-called (or self-proclaimed smile) "haters" up and left. While I enjoy the latest album, and I am down with the jazz sound of the last few years, I still find that reading EvilWhiteMale's, as well as a few others', opinions which aren't in line with my own help me think a little more critically about what I like about Prince's music and why I like it.

The people who really need to find a new home are the ones who can't tolerate opinions that go against their own.

I don't. cuz he's right. I really really really really love this album but it is far from what Prince could be doing musically. Especially with that band.

He needs to release an album that will straight out scare the fuck out of most people because it's so musically wicked and fierce. I want to hear it too Evil....

Evil, I think we're being twinsies again giggle

Well you're absolutely right. I know Prince said he doesn't care to shock people anymore, but that's kind of a dumb attitude. He doesn't have to be sexually provocative or anything, but the music should be a kick to the teeth and make people say "Holy Shit!! Prince can do that?"

I haven't heard the new album. Waiting for the April 20th release. But I've been waiting a loooong time for that type of album. A lot of times, I just give up hope that he'll show the masses all that he's truly capable of. I just give up hope and accept what comes. The Hall of Fame ceremony touched on that, but for some odd reason, on other shows, he restrains himself. He only rocks when seen live, and honestly, I wasn't all that impressed by the Alladin DVD. (except for "Sometimes it Snows in April") I know I will probably catch flack for stating my opinion - Prince is my boy and all - I love him to pieces, but sometimes, he can be frustrating. <--pardon the run-on sentence neutral

That's why I don't pay for his albums anymore. Why pay for boredom? Prince is recording way too many "safe" songs, and it's quite sickening. But I guess as long as the fams keep praising the crap, he'll keep making it.

After the opening concert in LA & the days after I wondered how long it would be b4 the inevitable would happen...the KING OF PRINCE.ORG HATERS WOULD BAD MOUTH MUSICOLOGY. It took a little longer than I expected but here he is full-steam-hatred. Instead of telling us what song 'sucked' or why he hates Musicology or what songs he can't stand, he will just blanketed the new Prince music by saying "the whole cd sucks, he blew it again". Album after album..." the whole cd sucks, he blew it again". Post after post..,.."the whole cd sucks, he blew it again". It makes u wonder why are u even bothering to listen 2 ANY of Prince's new music? Why r u here posting if it sucks so much....yet u can't keep talking about, writing about, preaching the hateration about EVERY ALBUM PRINCE RELEASES? Why do u even bother downloading one new Prince song if u hate it so much?
Think about it folks. As obessed as us Prince-lovers are, why do 'the Haters keep coming back 4 more n more n more. Ít's the same reason when u go in2 a chat room and theres this one guy trying with all his might 2 piss everyone off....it's 2 get attention, a rise & a reaction from everyone else. If everyone (including me) ignored these folks I'm sure it would end after a while. Think about how many replies would this so-called-hater get if he told us what he actually liked, dare I say loved on a new Prince release? Not many, bc that's why we're all here, yes even the so-called haters...BECAUSE WE ALL LOVE PRINCE MUSIC, BOTH NOW & THEN. I like a few song by Marilyn Manson, but on the other hand I cannot stand most of his music, why in the world I waste any of my God given lifetime 2 go 2 a PRO-FAM-FANsite for Marilyn Manson & type night after day on how much his music sucked? why should I,,,bc it's wrong, disrespectful of him & his diehard fans who love his music. Life's 2 short 4 hate, try some postivity..YES.

U have more patience than I thought. So what do u like about the album or have u sat down & listened 2 the whole cd? song by song I dare u 2 give an review of the cd and EXPLAIN WHY u can't stand Musicology . It's easy 2 sit back & point your finger & say oh that sucks. Show me WHY u feel this way. Back it up if u can EWM.

The problem is that you haven't read all my posts reagrding the album. I've described before what I don't like about it. I'm not gonna break it down song by song, but I'll give you this much. I think the album is dry and lacks depth. As the years have gone on, Prince's song writing skills have gotten weaker. Now I'm not saying I don't understand. Afterall, the man has produced more songs than I can imagine. I just don't feel anything from this record. I think A Million Days and Cinnamon Girl are worth listening to, but even they're nothing spectacular. The album contains no real catchy hooks and no memorable songs. I think it's an album that only a select group of fans can appreciate. The general public isn't into this kinda shit. The problem is Prince music isn't fun anymore and he's not doing anything new or amazing to break necks. I've said it before, time will tell. My prediction is that the marketing will get it a few sales, but it will be forgotten about soon enough. It will never be remembered as well as any album from the 80's, or even the 90's.

IMhumbleO, illusion is another poorly masked moan about the industry. and its such a lame metaphor, the ever reliable - 'artist is the whore, bad record company man that pays me millions it the pimp'. the fact he makes such a poor attempt to hide this lame symbolism is cringe worthy. it comes off like a poor mans attempt at george clinton-style storytelling. all of which might be bearable if there was a song or melody behind it, but there isnt. prince is trying to be all clever again but theres nothing to be clever about. its not even a cool tale. how sad.

edit: i meant this in response to purpleknight saying that illusion was a cool song.....
