Yup, it should be a hot track. It would be cool if Prince did a cover like that.

Looking forward to this one, MM's attempt at covers have been of a good effort in the past. Personal Jesus by Prince though wouldn't quite cut it for me, that song has a lot of edge and is not his style.

I don't. cuz he's right. I really really really really love this album but it is far from what Prince could be doing musically. Especially with that band.

He needs to release an album that will straight out scare the fuck out of most people because it's so musically wicked and fierce. I want to hear it too Evil....

I think we could be triplets!!!!!
I completely agree. I would love another Prince album to kick my fucking ass!! I know, deep down somewhere in my being...he's capable of it...but I don't know. There is doubt. I don't want pop/hiphop or watered down funk...I want something original...something that moves me. But when he said "all thanks to Jehovah" in the HOF speech, I kinda lost all hope for that. He's not a badass anymore, he's not hungry...he's just a musician who feels he's paid his due. And rightfully so. (I guess) shrug

But it still fucks with me.

Ahh, so Prince is trying to bore us to death with his new music. I wonder if this is a new form of terrorism. With the exception of Cinnamon Girl and A Million Days (which are tollerable), the new album is pretty boring and irritating. I'll admit, it's a good deal better than TRC, but it's so lame compared to what he's capable of. I thought he really wanted a comeback. I guess he'll just do it with his old hits this year. That's all the majority will care about anyway.

Why do you think he is capable of better. He WAS capable of better when he was a younger man, but age has retarded his songwriting abilities. Well, he is still great live and he's given us more great music in the past than anyone else, so I've let him slide for a few years and for the future. I'll always be a loyal Prince fan, just based on what he did from 1978-1988. Everything else is just extra.

It's disappointing when a new album is released, and one thinks "Damn, what happened Prince?" sad

But gotta agree with you really, 1978-88 cool

my thoughts exactly (and i never agree with you). First, it sounds like a bootleg. Now I see why no studio wanted to touch it. I also see why he is touring with his 80's & 90's hits (again). Ehh, his opinion does no harm to mine.

I think Musicology was just meant to be a fun album full of some good songs to show ppl Prince never really left, and since most reviews have been really positive, I'd say he at least did pretty well in that regard.

I thought TRC, though that fusion jazz stuff isn't really my genre, was absolutely brimming with musical and lyrical ingenuity though.

I don't agree with EWM's opinion on this album, or on many of the recent Prince releases. That having been said, I just don't get why folks have to start calling him an "idiot" because he isn't following along with the majority here. I got a taste of this recently, when I was called names, and told my opinion was worthless because I disliked D'Angelo's "Voodoo". Why is it that people can't debate these points without silly name calling? EWM and I have debated MANY times on here, and we rarely agree when it comes to Prince, yet we've always had a mutual respect for one another. His opinion is just as valid as anyone who praises "Musicology", and he at least backs up his opinion with proper analysis. Many folks just get on here and say "it sucks" or "its the greatest recording ever", but don't present any valid points to back up these statements. Personally, I'd rather have someone who presents an honest opinion, with criticisms to back it, than have someone who blindly dismisses or loves something.

Exactly, I respect the guy enough cause he actually takes the time to add substance to his statements.

I'd rather have EWM post intelligently about why he doesn't like Prince's new music than have to read another mindless rant from Zelaira.

so EWM, tell me,
if, if by some chance, you really start liking Musicology
will you post here and admit it?
before all the orgers, will you say so with a contrite heart?

I was not very impressed either, after my first few listens. But it grows on you!
That's how Lovesexy, Come, TRC were for me too.
The musicology album is not exactly the direction I wanted to see Prince move in either,
but I think it is a pretty diverse and well crafted album. Funky, smooth, rockin, jazzy.

if this album were made by anyone else it would make them an absolute star, and instant sensation, with hit after hit. now i don't know if there is a strong point made there, but it does provide some perspective i think.

Sure, I'll admit it. I'm always honest in my posts. But all it takes is one listen for me to decide if it may grow on me or not. So far I've given ech song about 3 listens and I know there's not gonna be any growth. It's not the style of music I like, so I'm not gonna get into it.

Evil white male I'd like to know what old stuff do you like. The thing is Prince is old. When you get old you just don't rock like you used to.

That doesn't mean you have to play old man music.

I personally loved the rainbow children. I think it flowed better than an album since the symbol album. He is into the Jazz thing now.

Unfortunately.

I haven't heard musicology yet but I can say that after as many records as he's put out it may be more difficult to find inspiration.

I totally agree. That's why I call his new music "dry wood."

How good was NIRVANA's stuff after NEVERMIND.

It was fantastic. In Utero was an awesome record, and the final song "You Know You're Right" is a classic.

How good will the WHITE STRIPES be if they are lucky enough to survive in the music business for 25 years. Think about it.

Some artists are capable of going the long run. Prince has accomplished a whole lot but that doesn't mean he has to be dired up. I know he can do more exciting stuff, but I think he chooses not to.

Well you're absolutely right. I know Prince said he doesn't care to shock people anymore, but that's kind of a dumb attitude. He doesn't have to be sexually provocative or anything, but the music should be a kick to the teeth and make people say "Holy Shit!! Prince can do that?"

I think he can do better cuz I see some good moments. I think the problem is his new belief system and his current taste in music. He wants to be all clean and holy, and play pussy jazz/funk crap. If he suddenly had a desire to play some real rock/pop stuff, I think he'd be okay. He could fuck that up too, but if his heart is really in it, it could be possible.
