I was really pleased.

at the moment... A Million Days (though Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance is a real
grower at the moment)

What is the song you dislike the most?
I don't 'dislike' any of them, but 'The Marrying Kind' is probably my least favorite.

Which songs would you replace on the album?
I don't think I'd replace any of them. Though I think the album would benefit from the
addition of a proper 'rocker' in the vein of 'Lets Go Crazy', 'Endorphinmachine' or 'Bambi'.
You know, something that 'let's rip' a bit and shows off Prince's rawk side.

Which songs do you think might grow on you?
'Life O The Party' is really growing on me at the moment (I wasn't sure about it when I
first listened to it). The chorus reminds me a bit of Nasty Girl, and the drum rhythmn is
different and catchy (plus the middle eight is real funny). 'Cinnamon Girl' is also a track
that starts off great but is let down somewhat by the chorus (A bit like 'I Wish U Heaven'
in that respect).

Do you think Musicology will be a chart-topper?
Difficult one... I think it'll do very well, but we'll see what impact to sales giving it away at
concerts will do. The other thing is that to really get those kinda sales you gotta have heavy
rotation of the title track / a hit single to keep it in the general public's mind (cuz like it or
not, it's those people that make songs / albums hits, not fans).

What is the last Prince album you actually enjoyed?
All the way through... I'd have to say The Gold Experience. Though I did like The Rainbow
Children a lot (it was a 'grower' though). The only period that didn't really 'do it' for me was
the Emancipation-Newpower Soul phase.

What has been your reaction to Musicology?
- It was ok.

LOTP ... As a P-Funkateer and Prince fan from back in the day, believe me when I validate its authenticity as a bona fide hard funk thrown down. I am baffled by the flack this song is receiving. As a true funkateer, my other faves are Musicology, ICPC and Dear Mr. Man. Overall, I wish the album had more funk ... It is too much on the mellow side overall.

What is the song you dislike the most?
Million Days and Cinnamon Girl ... Too mainstream pop sounding.

See above. Something more uptempo and either funky or rocking would have better served the album.

Nope. I think if he parlays this success into a more powerful and hooky follow-up album that it could have the potential to reach the top based on the Musicology momentum.

Even though I do not relate to the lyrics, TRC is a masterpiece. Musicology, on the other hand, joins other mediocre post-Purple Rain Prince albums like Rave, Emancipation, NPS, D&P, Chaos and Disorder, Come, ATWIAD and Batman. They all have some great songs on them and are superior to most of what else is out there, but are not as powerful and consistent as Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy, The Black Album, Symbol, TGE and TRC.

- Sheer joy and and exhilaration.

As with all Prince records, I save my judgements till after the 7th listen. It is impossible to determine if you like a song after only 1 listen. Once your mind recognizes the musical patterns, then like or dislike come in.

My reaction to Musicology was pure amazement.

Musically, I really dig the hell out of TRC and Xpectation. I'm still waiting for another Gold Experience or "The Vault, Pt. II - Everything Must Go".

What's your advice for P regarding future recordings?

Hire an external producer, someone who dares to say 'No', 'We need another take' or 'Let's move on, this song is crap'. Also, stop worrying about commercial success. I don't believe you already did, although you may have said so. It hurts your music, and one can hear it.

- "Dear Mr. Man", "Call My Name", "What Do U Want Me 2 Do?" are my absolute favorites.
"Musicology", "Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance", "On The Couch" and "Reflection" are decent and very enjoyable Prince tracks.
"A Million Days", "Life 'O' The Party", "The Marrying Kind" and "If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life" are not my personal favorites, but I don't have to hit the skipbutton either.

- "Cinnamon Girl": that song's just a little bit too much cheese for my taste, although I could hear this track on pop radio...

- Obviously "Cinnamon Girl".

If I had been in charge of this album, I would have added the following songs:
1. "UMakeMySunShine", a new version with drums by John Blackwell.
2. "When I Lay My Hands On U"
3. "Sex Me Baby, Sex Me Not"

I would also give "Life 'O' The Party" a different chorus, that's the weak spot on this track.

I believe "Musicology" is a very enjoyable album, it might have some mainstream appeal if it's marketed properly. This collection of songs surely makes for a pleasant Prince album, although it's not breaking any new ground IMO. But give me an album like this every year, instead of stuff like "Emancipation", "NPS" and "Rave", and I would be a very happy customer...

I honestly have to say I don't like it, even after repeated listens. Even with all the postive hoopla surrounding the tour this is a decline in music. Rave was better.

Not a chance, but it might make it to the top ten. I imagine that it will likely be his best selling album since the symbol album, which is something of an accomplishment I suppose.

More and more pleased. It's not the ass-kicking "new Prince album" feeling from the 80's, but I've already played it more than I ever played TRC. Definitely grows on you.
