Prince does make a refrence to cigarettes in "17 Days" although probably not in reference to himself....

The only one who I ever saw smoking during their show up was Renato Neto in Nigthttown Rotterdam. Also I heard on some Purple Rain-rehearsal tapes when he talks to some one in the band to "put the cigarette down and pay attention to the hi-hat". Prince was not delighted about the bands performance during that performance...

I think it's great that you never see anyone drinking or smoking during his concerts.

and even in 'Purple Rain', the way he says to Apollonia, "Don't Drink That" in the under the bridge scene goes to show his dislike for intoxicants.

He may not smoke but there have been true sounding stories about his ingestion of excstasy and wine. If the source weren't so reliable I wouldn't have believed it. Yes he has messed around in spite of his early beliefs that drugs were bad. It's hard for people to stay sober when everyone around them is trying something and offering it to you.

I think he's had his moments in the past where he's experimented with certain substances (and in the mid-90s he mighta had a stint with pills, if rumors are to be believed), and he's mentioned having a taste for wine here and there, but for the most part I think he's a fairly abstinent fella.

well, he may have tried E just once only out of curiosity, and not to get high. I don't think he has done any intoxicants to get 'high', he is against substance abuse.

not in teh 70s since someone quoted in teh star tribune article said that while others were found loitering around smoking and doping, he never used to be a part of that group and used to stay away from all this.

The line in 17 days just seemed to be there to paint a picture of someone who was down and sad, not an endorsement of smoking.

If Prince was an avid smoker, it would be more than noticeable nowdays.
