thoughts on Ellen show

Firstly, I heard reports he performed Bambi, well if he did, they didnt air it sad

Secondly, I was pretty disappointed with I Feel 4 U...the harmony was terrible. Nobody in that band can sing but Prince. Rhonda is ok in her own rite, but whenever she has to do backup for P, its brutal...same went for Rad and Chance.

"I wouldnt lie 2 u baby, its plainly a spiritual thing"?!! lol

He shagged a groupie and left his wife for her, and it became spiritual.

Nothing Compares 2 U could have been great if he left out the "oooh oooh oooh ooh ooohs" from the non-singers.

Other than that pretty good performance. Hell, I'll take what i can get, as if we have any other option.

Rhonda can indeed ruin many songs with her sub-standard harmonies....i.e. Pop Life (a nightmare).

i dont think so,i think prince couldve and shouldve performed better songs, he should have replaced nothing compares 2 u with contoversy. he didnt even perfom or mention his new songs, it was cool,it being prince and all, remember when he used 2 go on the arsenio hall show, man that whole show would be almost new songs

It was OK. I've seen better performances. It wasn't as cool as his performance on Leno.

But the atmosphere on the other hand was great.
Therewas chemistry between Ellen and our man.
Nice to watch.

I dunno but is this show popular in the US?

I have noticed the back up singing problem...
On Leno, the occasional backup voices sound bored and mumbled.
Really Really bad. Play it back and take a listen.

No meat - just EAT biggrin

Yea, the backup singers are a problem. Seems Rhonda was the only one backing him on the ONA tour, now they're too fucking loud & they don't sound good. They overpower him - he better remedy that quick.

I thought the songs sounded good but he wasn't inspired on Kiss - I think he brought the people up to dance when he felt like it might get stale but they made it worse being so lame.

I'm just happy he looked good today (clothes & hair were SWEET) & he showed a little bit of skin - I'll take what I can get lol

"Old skin"... PLEASE disbelief
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

The back up singing lacked. This isn't anything new. The Revolution wasn't a
chior backing him up. Anyhow They got a month to work it out.

I loved the selection of songs.

I laughed out loud when I heard the ' spiritual ' lyric change. How many times can he cover his older songs raunchy lyrics?

I thought the performance was a little weak when you consider it was Prince.
It just seemed like something was missing. But he was playing when the show went off, so I'm thinking it got better. Didn't seem as happy as on the Leno show.

Ellen's the "hot new" daytime show this year, she's getting a lot of acclaim and attention. Which makes me happy cos I love her style!!!

as for my thoughts on the show, I agree that the vocals on I Feel For You were weak. Kiss felt flat to me as well. And, well, I HATE when he does Nothing Compares.. lol

but all in all, I'm happy. Their was good chemsitry between he and Ellen in the interview and it's just good to see him in the public eye again.

Plus, again, "we" weren't necessarily the target audience for this show. My sister (who took my to see P for the 1st time in 1988) called after the show. She has not been interested in Prince for a LONG time now. But she LOVED the show and called to make sure I'd seen it and to ask me to let her know about any MPLS shows so she can get tickets and go....That's what these appearances are about. Reminding old fans what he's about and getting them to the shows...

...damn typos!....

I thought it was a real funky cool performance.
The interview was funny Prince had his guard
up and Ellen was tryin real hard to make him relax.
He kept givin her the What are you gonna ask me exactly? look.
lol.... He then brought up the boxer shorts with
ELLen printed on them across the waist band.
That she had placed in his dressing room, and he got chills,
like No, I don't think i'm gonna wear umm. So she told him.
Well, i'm wearin a Prince thong right now. He smiled.
Then she was praising him and looking at him like relax.
I'm not crazy. I'm chillin.... I don't think Prince was convinced.
But he was vibin the music. It looked like he was ready
to do a whole concert feelin the music for real....
He had to hold back. It was only a little bit of air time
as is... He made the best of it and rocked the house.
I wonder what the people in Iowa and Nebraska thought.
lol.... They must have been blown away. eek
lol.... eek
The musical groove along with a stylin black
sleeveless turtleneck funky shirt.... cool arrow exclaim

So, so true. Sorry to say, she seems nice and all, and I know lotsa the straights think she's hella fine, but she can NOT sing good enough to be dueting with Prince, not even CLOSE. I mean compare her voice to Susannah's or Boni's or Rosie's or Wendy's or hell, even Apples wink - Pop Life being a great example.

She's a really good bass player and I like watching her face while she plays and I enjoy her presence in the band...just, you know...can't he find a woman that can sing AND put up with his ..... eccentricities? wink

Please. rolleyes Rhonda may not be the best singer, but SHE AIN'T NO DAMN APOLLONIA!!!! no no no! NO ONE is that fucking horrible. And to compare her to Rosie or Boni is just flat-out insane. Those ladies were in a whole different league than Rhonda. I'm thinking that's the whole purpose of having her sing backup and not take leads on certain songs like he gave to Boni or Rosie.
