Help me spend $20 on iTunes

I've got a $20 gift certificate I need to spend at the iTunes store -- anyone have any song/album suggestions? Obviously, I'm a Prince fan (but I've got all the P and P-related artists music that's available on iTunes), and I also like Jamiroquai, and instrumental jazz like XPectation, Madhouse and NEWS.

best thing to do is get a bunch of songs from different artists....the search feature is great for this purpose. I've downloaded songs from artists that I don't particulary like, except for a song or two. Listen to the radio for a few days, make a list of artists you want to search or specific songs, and see what's out there.
I've found songs that I loved but didn't know who played them, songs I haven't heard in years, etc., etc.

Two suggestions:

1) If you've been wanting to hear only ONE song by a new artist, but didn't want to buy the album, then download that song. Do this for 20 different groups . . .

Or

2) Check out the Exclusive section of iTunes. You'll find stuff in there that is a little obscure (live stuff, remixes) but you might find something you like. It's cool knowing that this stuff isn't anywhere else except for iTunes. I got a Liz Phair song that way, and a Coldplay song. It's fun.

Well, I don't know your musical tastes!

I'd stay away from Top-40, definitely. Get some pseudo-alternative or blues-y songs to round out your collection.

I'd say:

Liz Phair
David Gray
Johnny Lang
White Stripes

or maybe get some classical stuff? Something from Lord Of The Rings or Star Wars?

Just suggestions of stuff that is a little different.

What do you listen to normally?

See above...obviously P music, Jamiroquai, instrumental/edgy jazz like NEWS and XPectation, and also stuff like Thievery Corporation, even Greazy Meal (the band Tommy B ended up in after leaving the NPG).

If you like Jamiroquai (I do too), then maybe check out "Thicke". I don't know if it's on iTunes or not, but if you can find the CD it's worth a listen.

He mixes Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, and early Prince and MJ (and even some Beatles). He's cool.

As far as iTunes, maybe then check out some "Jet" (a new band). You might like some of their stuff.

If you like Jamiroquai you might wanna get your fucking head examined.. smile

If you want properly funky dance music get the new 'Basement Jaxx' album; Kish Kash. I challenge you to listen to this album and not wanna go out and party.
It has some great tracks on there including one that sounds real Prince like, it feature Meshell Ndegocello on vocals.

If it's available download Buju Banton's 'friends for life' album. It's brilliant.
"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

Check the newsgroups and Kaaza first to see what you can already get for free. Then use the gift certificate to get other stuff that you would have to otherwise pay for.

Sly, I did try to get the new Basement Jaxx album, but it's not on iTunes. I'll check it out though. Promise. wink

I ended up getting Jet "Get Born" and Maroon 5 "Songs About Jane."

Thanks again, everyone.

Sure did -- I checked out everyone's suggestions. I wasn't much into the Bee Gee's 1993 album, but the two tracks from the 2001 album are on my list of songs to pick up. cool

Just go to www.ant-zen.com instead and order Converter's "Shock Front" instead. Will chance your life.

Of course you can't really use your voucher, but at least you won't be wasting any more time listening to crap music. And that's a value in itself too..
