Diamonds And Pearls or The Symbol?

Hi guys, why the symbol album (1992) sold less than diamonds and pearls? why diamonds and pearls reached the double platinium status in the us(2 million) and the symbol reached only a platinium staus??? (1 million). I mean the symbol album musically its better than d&p? what do you think aboute it?

tanks and sorry 4 my english:)

Easy - Diamonds and Pearls was far more commercial, which is why us fans don't like it, yet the non-fans do.

I'd definitely go with prince here.

Diamonds and Pearls had too many moments of ridiculous rapping and blatant attempts at mainstream glory.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Cream and Diamonds and Pearls, but it's just less great than what Prince could do.

prince wasn't quite great to me either, but it's a really good album.

I'll take prince anyday to Diamonds and Pearls. It's more cohesive to me than D & P was but there were some excellent "gems" if you will from D & P.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Shit, this whole fans / fams thing is really confusing lol

Us fans don't like it, the non-fams do - so what about the fams who aren't fans (because they're not allowed to be anymore)?

wink

They are both awful albums with a few good songs on each. I'd rather listen to Newpower Soul, anyday.

Sorry, but it is too funny how one simple typo (it was meant to be non-fans, i.e. people who don't like Prince) caused all this confusion - if only Prince hadn't said "fam".

Yeah, know what you mean.

I note that on the Tavis show, whenever he's asked a question which relates to fans he refers to the people who come to the shows.

Except once when he actually said "fanbase".

Unless i heard him wrong and it was "fambase". Which sounds like some sort of lubricant.

Fambase lol

No, Prince did refer to them as Fanbase, and he was also NOT wearing High heels, I think he's either got overly conservative now, or he's trying to get rid of the "weird" image.

I always see tons of "D&P" in used record stores. It's one of those things when people react to all the promotion and radio play, buy the album, then once sick of "Cream", or the title track, are left with "Jughead"..... so off "D&P" goes to the used record store.

That makes the next album a tougher sell, especially if you're next single is as "offensive" as "Sexy MF"
