cool I've gotten into Prince early thru mid 80's. That's like the last of the 1999 era... begining into the Purple Rain era.

I was awestruck when I saw the video for "When doves cry". Then it was off and on until the Batman soudtrack. Haven't look back since.

I am from the 1999/PURPLE RAIN era. I was 10 when i bought 1999 at Harmony House at Macomb mall the fall of '83. And if i remember correctly that X-mas when i went shopping for shit with my X-mas $ i purchased Controversy and was told by the clerk of the new movie this guy was making...an then BOOM! the explosion of When Doves Cry & PR that summer. I have been captivated ever since. All though my favorite era is '85 to '88. There just hasn't been a time in Prince's recent career that the music had been so experimental and flowed together so perfectly in that stretch of time. Just genius. Classic era. I hope all the hype we hear comes true and we all have a happy purple new year! Tiz no one FUNKIER!2004!

Definitely the Prince/Dirty Mind era -- I bought those albums on vinyl, and I have been a fan ever since.

I got into Prince's music during the D&P era.

But spiritually, my heart belongs in the SOTT/Black Album/Lovesexy era. music heart

With the Controversy/1999 era coming in at a very close second!

I just realized as being a Prince fan we all became fans from different era's. Some fans liked Prince from the dirty mind era or some fans didn't like Prince up until the batman era. If I had 2 choose, I would say, I'm most definetly a fan from the 1999/purple rain era.. I loved the whole era with The Time and Vanity 6/Appolonia 6, I really liked Wendy & Lisa when I was a child and I use 2 always think Wendy was Prince's girlfriend lol. Anyways I had stopped being a fan 4 a while, after Prince changed his band. I swear before I became a fan again, I didn't remember any of hits from the Sign O' the times album except 4 U got the look. I appreciate Prince from all era's, but overall I would have to say, I'm a victim of the purple era. What I loved the most was, the way he heavily use to the drum machines 2 make the linn sound. You don't hear that much on during the Sign O' the times/ Lovesexy decade.

Btw way I didn't became a fan again until the early 90's, when I was old enough 2 buy my own music. lol

Er, now really!

I love almost all his earlier stuff (I first really dug him with 'Batman'), but the Prince of now, while he may have lost some of that fire of youth, is the most accomplished, most deeply talented, soulful and experienced Prince of them all. For me, TRC is his greatest album, at least musically speaking. Today he is a better guitarist, keyboard player, and, if he digs a little deeper than his recent JW themes and draws more on his life experience, he can be a really great singer-songwriter, like he proved on 'The Truth', another one of his recent-ish great albums. Today's Prince can give you the Purple Rain, Gotta Broken Heart, Sign O' the Times, but he can also give you the Xenophobia, Avalanche, Family Name, Pretty Man etc. I don't listen to music for nostalgia reasons. I listen to it because I like it now.

His ONAL tour last year, possibly his best ever, was the kind of tour he should always do. Mainly showcasing his (hopefully) great new music, with a mixture of old classics and rarities. Enjoy the past while looking to the future.

If he can release albums as great as TRC, Xpectation and NEWS (in places) and continue to evolve and change, I'll be happy! As Miles Davis once said, 'if he keeps it up, he can be the Duke Ellington of our times.' People should thank God he's still with us and still making excellent music. So few of the real greats last the distance, and we've got one who looks like he just might! Amen 2 that!

I remember listening to Prince in high school. Went to HS
from 84-88; those were the days!!! Saw Purple Rain and Under The Cherry Moon in theaters.

I am not too familar with Prince and the NPG. I am still stuck into the old grooves. I'll never stop digging them.

Though, I do hope to join NPGMC this coming year.
