Passing admiration since Purple Rain era... Full-blown affair during Parade era... Drifted apart at the Diamonds & Pearls era... Reconciled briefly for the Emancipation era... Bitter-and-twisted ex by the time of the Rave era... Friends again after hearing One Nite Alone... Estranged yet again after N.E.W.S.

I fell in love with 1999 and Little Red Corvette the first time I heard them, but Purple Rain was the first Prince album I bought. Then I went backwards and bought: 1999, Controversy, Dirty Mind and For You,while keeping up with the rest of his 80's albums. I have a few of the 90's and nothing beyond that. I love him but his newer sound is taking me a lot longer to get used to so I don't devote a lot of time to get to know his newer stuff.

Dirty Mind was the first album I heard and I quite liked it but wasn't mad mad mad about it. 1999 album got me hooked followed up by Purple Rain and then there was no going back.

Discoverd Prince's music from the very beginning! Bought every album he put out til around the early nineties. For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, and Controversy are still the heaviest in rotation for me, but his new stuff (and for me, good old father time) are changing that!

I discovered his music early on around the 1999 era,
I was a kid and remember humming to the tunes of 1999 and LRC from radio play. But I only recognised Prince from the PR era.

When I came to Australia KISS was absolutely huge here, all over the radio and Saturday TV, I was kind of put off from Prince at that stage -it took me a long time to understand that song, then again I was only a kid back then...

I begun to apreciate Prince during the Thieves In Thn Temple (GB era). From then on its been an amazing rollercoaster ride.

The summer of '92. Diamonds & Pearls was still in the UK top 20 some ten months after its release. A mate of mine played Cream and I thought it was a cool track so I bought the album.

Dirty Mind-Sign O'The Times. This was the man at his musical and lyrical best.Even if I didn't like a particular track, there was no way to deny it was unique in his own quirky way. It's too bad the same can't be said for his 90's/today stuff.

well the first time I heard was in the 5th Grade (1982)

I was at my first girlfriend's birthday party and her parents had the 1999 record.. WE played that thing to death that night!

so I guess I am from the 1999 Era

**The exact moment I became a ONLY Prince Fan!!

* Hearing Erotic City on a b-side ( I never heard the "F word" in a song!)

But the moment was:

#1 ** American Music Awards when Prince won everything & was acting lets say odd smile with his speach "Thank You very much" & taking his bodyguard on stage smile then blowing the crowd away with a live version on Purple Rain & mostly NOT showing up for the "we are the world" song afterwards

I'm probably from the D&P/symbol era. The first album I bought was Batman but it was Gett Off that really started the love affair.

Me too!! We were listening to Nasty Girl in the car the other day, and my husband says he used to hear that down at the disco, along with Erotic City, Sex Shooter, Jungle Love. I was not old enough to go to nightclubs back then like he was. I am SOO jealous! but I am also 5 years younger now, ha ha.

I had a strange relationship with Prince in the beginning. When I was young I was very into "the pale one", that was my mistake, and some time I even thought that Prince was MJ's brother, Jeremy or something. Really nuts !
And by that time - that was Lovesexy tour in Oslo and I thought then that Prince looked ugly. But then I saw him in the "Partyman" video and I fell in love. love It was like ...God, who's that man?! I could sit for hours staring at him in that way. By chance I found "Parade" cassette at home, and so that was it. The hysteria! But I love him mostly from, let's say...Controversy-1999-Puple Rain...or maybe earlier...At least, Prince-era...4U...He was so wild then and very sexy (well, still is..).lips
IT AIN'T ABOUT THE TRIPPIN' BUT THE SEXUALITY, TURN IT UP!!!

I can't really chose. But I have to say the 90's even though i really respect the 80's such as the lovesexy era, the purple rain era, and SOTT. I love all of his music in the 90's, Come on ya'll it was fonky! I really can't chose peeps! One side of me is saying 80's and the other is saying 90's. But like i said, I respect and love the 80's because i love 80's music. When i first saw purple Rain and when "When doves cry" came on, I instantly melted. I was like, That is a beautiful song, Just like the beautiful ones.

Another song that hit me hard was "Little Red Corvette"
Little red corvette, Baby ya much too fast (yes you are)

"Controversy" introduced me to him. I remember spying the LP in my older cousin's record stack and thinking Prince was the WEIRDEST-looking thing I'd ever seen...

Then came "Little Red Corvette," whose airplay was a nice accompaniment to my days in summer camp. Then I began to take notice with the MTV rotation for that video and for "1999." By the time "Delirious" came out, and I was hearing it everywhere -- I mean, everywhere, even at swimming class, piped in over the loudspeakers. from WKYS-FM broadcasts -- I was becoming a Prince fan at a pretty early age.

Early enough to worry a cousin of mine who didn't realize that 90% of P's dirty lyrics flew right by me... LOL.

A good 10% of them still do, some 20 years later. Sheesh... shrug
