I often wonder what Lennon and Hendrix would be doing today if they were still with us.

a bunch of talented musos, but not Prince.

There r many aspects as to Prince's music that reminds U of other great names, but nothing compares to him.

And Miles Davis, The Beatles, even Elvis Presley? And many more.
But Prince is more than that.

Yeah, I agree, but if someone who has never heard Prince, wanted to know what he's like. Lil Richard, JB, George Clinton, Sly, Santana, Hendrix and Joni, are all artists I would have them listen to...

Take Santana out of that equation! He doesn't deserve to be there.

Otherwise it's fine.

Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players. Anybody who knows this cat is aware of how much Prince really listened to him. Prince`s falsetto voice is all Sugarfoot.

You gotta be joking. Carlos Santana is probably the guitarist who influenced Prince the most.

Yes, maybe Beatles is not a major influence musically, but Prince wanted to have their attitude about albums. And Elvis, there are moments Prince is very similar to Elvis Presley, not only in covers like Jailhouse rock. It's clear the main influences have been noted in the beginning of this thread, but we can find more things like this, or even Zappa, Duke Ellington and more.
