Prince vs Missy Eilliot

okay some of y'all wasn't feeling my Prince vs The Nep's thread, but what do y'all think about this competition ? Missy said it herself "Prince couldn't get me to my name" lol... you know the woman is bad nod. I don't know if she knows how to play any insturments or whatever, but as far as production goes & creativity.. Missy is da bomb. I think if she wasn't so cocky, she could learn alot from Prince... what do y'all think ?

I think you should start listening to 'black' music from the sixties and the seventies.

If there's one thing 4 sure, the area where Missy is winning is the music videos ... I just watched her greatest video hits collection on tv last night and all her videos are great... Missy Eillot is like the female version of Micheal Jackson when it comes to music videos. nod

Why is this even a debate? I personally hate Missy Elliot and I'm very offended that she's even being compared to the genius af my man.

Again young Jedi with the comparisons...it is truly futile.

How can there be any suggestion that Elliot is in P's class.

Yeah yeah but Timberland ain't no Jimi, a smart producer is not the same as a genius musician ok? stfu

Timberland stole his beats from drum 'n' bass, he's good but his ideas & tricks are as limited as Missy's way of production. As far as i'm concerned those 'hip' producers of today get way too much credit, they ain't no Jimi or Prince! What have they done musically?? Maybe Missy does her own thing, making some 'new kind of hiphop', that's it. The way hiphop is overcommercialised and corporate these days, it makes me sick. As a music lover i buy a lot of new music, at least 75% of it doesn't get any airplay on music channels or corporate media, i don't give a f*ck, it's much better than Timbaland or any other 'hip' and smart producer.

Maybe that's the problem these days, it's all about tricks in music, not skills. Look a bit further, there's good music outhere but it ain't Britney.

First of all I wanna start by saying I love Missy and I love prince - they are two very different people but as far as creativity they are both on the genius level to me.

Second, I wanna address the above comment - "Black" people have been making good music since the beginning of time and will continue to do so - I don't know why people seem to look at black music with such a critical eye based on whatever is POP at that time - if we only looked at "White" POP (Britney,Clay, or N'sync) would it be safe for me to say that shit is all wack? and she obviously HAS listened to "black" music from the seventies - she is a Prince fan - doesn't he have African American blood in his veins???

Well I don't listen 2 Britney Spears myself , but I'm just trying to do something different... how many times have we had the "can Prince play better then Jimi" convo ? We all know Prince is bad mofo , know what i'm sayin' , so why not have fun and try 2 challegne our thoughts with some new acts? If I was a new artist, I would try 2 Challenge Prince. I might get my ass whipped, but I would do it just 2 be a bad ass I guess lol

Anxiety

Missy's fun - she's good for the yearly party rocker and her lyrics are so stoopid they're delicious. She has a great track record for videos and she's done great things for other artists. BUT: She has absolutely ZERO stage chops or presence, and she interviews almost as poorly as Britney.

Maybe when she's been around as long as Prince, she'll be a stronger all around performer, but I doubt it...till then, she scratches an itch, and she scratches it well.

I think you read into my post too much. The only reason that it contains the word
'black' is to address a few musical styles such as blues, soul, funk and disco, all
paving the way for the current musical voice of choice, hip-hop.

And did you just call Miss E a HE? wink

If I misjudged your comment I do apologize- I have had a few conversations like this in the past couple of weeks so I'm automatically on the defense when it comes to that topic.

Also my 'He' was refering to Prince. thumbs up!
