Am I the only 1 not converted by TRC?

What is it with this album that has made half the org add it to their favourites list?
I found it rather inaccessible and JWy bigoted (mainly due to the nasty voiceover).
I guess it was a big change to his previous stuff but it surprised me how many people could ignore the voiceover and questionable views and still enjoy it.
I mean there are some good songs like Last December and Family Name and Sensual Everafter but the message is too overtly political and spouting JW's views for me to actually enjoy it and say it was one of his best.I like albums where he seems relatively sane but this one sounded a bit like Christian rock which always seems a bit corny.
I mean I much prefer NEWS already over this.
People moaned and groaned about RAVE or the slated HIGH album but i would probably easily swap this for them. I guess it seemed too "un-princey" for me.
Ne one else agree?

No you are not. I love the music on this album and I really wish someone would burn it for me without the words.

You are far from alone with that viewpoint. You don't have to look too hard to find a sizable group that is not "converted." I was initially put off by the lyrics and the voice, but came to really embrace it. I just listen to my interpretation of the lyrics. For instance, I agree that "accurate knowledge of Christ and the Father brings the Everlasting Now." However, my "accuracy" is that Christ is a man who is the son of God just the same as I am, as you are, as every being in the world is. Other than than, I look at most of it as a fanciful fairy tale. Nothing to get this particular non-Christian ultra liberal homo all upset about.

god, i want you... you are so right.

i should specify that when i say the voiceover drives me crazy it is because half the time i am trying to figure out what the hell it is saying. it alwas sounds like "sadgf asg g asplkasjr akfsjadl GOD sadfjksjdalj SPATULA sghjghds dsjghsa kaksdhjfk SWINGSET" to me. the religious imagery i can write off for the fairy tale it is.

NOOO!!! Say it ain't so, Joe!!! I LOVE Wedding Feast. It's a perfect palate cleanser before we get into the funk that closes out the album, and more importantly, a nice light-hearted moment in an predominantly heavy piece.

I think TRC sucks both musically and - especially - lyrically. After that sad excuse for a Prince album I haven't bought any of his subsequent stuff.

If you ask me, TRC is the sound of Prince's career hitting rock bottom.

An instrumental version of TRC would be HOTT, even if you DO happen to like the lyrics and the message. I love how the music meanders around on TRC, and I'd love to have a version at LEAST without Fat Albert cutting in and babbling over the music.

I always thought this sounded like something out of Waiting For Guffman, like Parker Posey should be singing it in a DQ uniform or something.

i love the music (even if i do think it could use a little "punching-up").

but the story told by the lyrics is retarded, and the preachiness borders on offensive occasionally.

I certainly haven't been converted by that foul piece of shit. I was disgusted to say the least.

I didn't feel it then nor now.I thought it was cool that Prince was taken a Live stance with His Music Making but the Album on a whole doesn't do much for me.some nice runs&of course the Live Instrumentation is cool to have again but that's all I can really give it.I grew up on Michael Jackson&George Benson among others that are or were JW's 20 plus years back&didn't get Hit over the head about it.

Ah I disagree. I rarely find myself agreeing with Prince on anything but I don't allow that to ruin my enjoyment of the music. Some of the views expressed on TRC were not my "cup of tea" but it didn't bother me, I've been filtering out Prince's quasi-religious mumbo jumbo since the 1980s smile

What I loved about TRC was that it was so different to everything he has done in the past, and despite his new beliefs etc it was refreshing to hear Prince pushing himself a bit more musically and lyrically. Remember that "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic" was rather tedious and contrived.

The voiceover was cool I thought, very Funkadelic. I guess I see Prince's music like a big musical gift to unwrap and I enjoyed being presented with this ridiculous, indulgent, impenetrable mess for me to figure out and explore. I don't ally myself with any of Prince's beliefs but that hardly matters, I am secure enough in my own beliefs and values that I can respect Prince is on his journey, and I am on mine, and where we meet is some of the fucking incredible he makes that I happen to dig.

TRC is right up there for me as one of Prince's most interesting albums. Up there with other favourites including ATWIAD, Lovesexy, The Truth, Exodus, and Emancipation. Sure, Prince is growing older and his beliefs and views have changed from 1984 but that's just life. Enjoy TRC for what it is, laugh at the bits you find silly or bigoted, and find another bit that you do like.

There isn't really much Prince can do lyrically to stop me enjoying his music, unless he releases an acappella album extolling the virtues of child molestation or something. That, I might pass on!
