Hi, i am from italy (sorry for my poor english) and maybe i know why prince did not went there, i remember when james brown perfomed here in italy at the pavarotti and frineds last year, james brown said to a journalist, that nobody can be the james brown of the 2000, especially Prince, so when I red this on the italian newspaper, for me was very strange, because i tought that james brown and prince they were friends, so I think James brown hate prince, and on the other side prince hate james brown (but of course not his music) sorry for my english but i am italian:)

James Brown doesnt hate Prince.
He's just a bitter old man who talks a lot of shit
about peeps who were influenced by him.
He doesnt have much respect for artists who were not able
to truly define their own style without using JB as an influence.
Dont forget that JB is 73 years old. People that age sometimes tend to act like assholes.

If P can't even be bothered to pay respect at his own Parents funeral, whys he gonna pay respect to JB?

He's too busy respecting Larry every day...

Listening to P's rhythm guitar on the last tour he's paying LOTS of respect to James Brown by sounding like JB's guitar hero Jimmy Nolen.

Stop trying to defend Prince's actions. He was a jerk for not showing up. Who cares if they honor J.B. at three awards, show some respect to the man that put the funk in all of our steps. Its not about whether or not the show is big time or low rate, Prince's presence on stage would have made it magic. Prince is in on punishment for a week!!

once again, has it ever occured to you that he wasn't wanted there?

Can Prince be a jerk sometime? yes, of course. Was he being that this time? no, he wasn't.

I'm not defending him, I'm saying that I don't blame him for not being there, and that there could be other reasons why he wasn't there.

Lets not forget that there are thousands of artists who have been influenced by JB, amomh those at least 50 big names in black music. Should they all step on stage as well and throw their capes on the Godfather??

Gosh, you guys really seem to believe that there are no other black artists but MJ and Prince.

since when has Prince been cool with awards shows 2 begin with ???

Well, he does turn up at those lame Yahoo awards when they promise to hand him one. And he'd planned a tremendously lame Revolution reunion for an awards show. Etc.

Isn't it funny how Prince "stopped caring" about awards when they stopped caring about him first? How he "stopped caring" about reviews when they stopped caring about him first? How he "stopped caring" about the charts when they stopped caring about him first?

And how Prince started caring again about reviews when there were a couple of handful positive ones?

Have you guys ever thought that, maybe just maybe,Prince was *BUSY* on the night of this award show? Maybe he had other things to do? He is a married man,you know, with other obligations and duties.Besides, his respect and admiration for JB is already well-documented.

My question is, where was M.C. Hammer? Remember the video that Hammer did in the early 90's called "2 Ligit 2 Quit", that featured James Brown. In the video, Hammer and James really dissed Michael Jackson, and Hammer was crowned the new King. That is so funny when you look back at that nonsense.

James Brown truly realizes now that it was both Michael and Prince who carried the torch to the current generations.

Yeah, it's quite simple really isn't it. Anyway, theorising about why Prince wasn't there keeps the morons happy wink

Funny you should mention that.

Whilst James was doing porridge after his little escapade a few years back, Bobby Brown dropped by to visit him in jail. James was overheard saying: "It's time for the godfather of soul to meet the "grandson"..."

Besides, we don't know the real story behind this stupid story!! Prince may have been invited and declined. He may not have wanted to be connected to this or any other cable TV award show. We all know that Prince is actually too talented and too much of an artist to share a stage with MJ anyway!!

Michael Jackson will appear at the 7-11 if you asked him..he's too busy trying to resuscitate a career long gone astray in the US. He should just accept that since he went crazy round about '88 or 1989 (he hasn't been right since THRILLER) his fans have deserted him. Personally, I'm tired of seeing MJ on TV lately anyway!!

Prince on the other hand, also having experienced a decrease in fan base, at least isn' t chasing after some spotlight like MJ. He seems content solitarilly making his music the way he wants under his own banner, like it or not..

I think that true fam can understand how P really feels about James Brown, why should he fawn after the man...like MJ??

Are we talking about the same Prince here?? Some of the comments I read about maybe he had better things to do. Or he may not have wanted to appear on BET or whatever. Are we talking about the same Prince that made an appearance on the Muppet Show to talk with stupid puppets??? Let me think...jam with the Godfather or sing with
Kermit T. Frog? Wow I can see how that is so much better than being on stage with the man that layed the foundation for him. The work part I. is best song he's done in the last couple of years and can't go say thanks??

If Prince took a dump in Times Square N.Y.C. somebody would find a way to defend that too. For shame!!

What does any of this have to do with MJ trying to resurrect his career? He simply appeared at an Awards show to show his respect and admiration to an artist that inspired him. It's really not any more complicated than that.He certainly wasn't there to promote a new album or himself, for that matter.

Yes,I know that MJ has his "issues",but let's not bash him for doing something admirable for a change.

If you all paid attention you would have seen several posts by now that told you just where Prince was..at the Apollo in Harlem paying his respects to James Brown's right hand man for so many years and one of the people that truly helped create the James Brown sound, Maceo Parker!!!
and to me that says a lot about Prince that he recognises someone who for so many years was thought of as a sideman but has been so influential in all forms of funk over several decades and to quote the NY Times "still looks like a man of 30!!!"
Maceo's show including Morris Hayes and Greg Boyer was incredible, ... and he has stayed funky and kept his show real, which I fear is sadly missing with the godfather, not to draw comparisons as that would be pointless, but I know who I rather see perform these days...

okay: so Prince didn't show up to an awards show that honored Jmes Brown; Big-Freakin'-Deal. He wasn't showing any disrespect by not doing that, chill.
I swear someof you guys will whine about anything. Get a grip.

And while MJ is probably one of the ultimate attention whores, don't hate on him either. He was doing somethng nice.
