On the one hand, it's nice to have a new Prince album to look forward to. But on the other hand, it's only 9 songs (I don't count the live version of a song that's already available). And of those 9 songs, I've already heard a few of them and I don't like them. So yeah, it's a bit of a disappointing announcement but it's better than nothing. And like I said in another thread, hopefully this will be the start of a more regular cadence of releases so we won't have to wait another 3 or 4 years for more music.

This is embarrassing. Who is gonna be like “gotta get that new Prince album called ‘Timeless’ it looks great!”

Absolutely no one. The few influencers who probably get paid by the estate will eat it up.

At least with “Originals” it had a theme there and they put an effort into the cover art. Just what is this..

Worse than the Michael Jackson estate and that’s saying something

Come on now. It's not worse that the Michael Jackson estate. They put out an album that included 4 songs that wasn't even him. And they have openly said that they have no plans to release any more unreleased material. Compared to them, the Prince Estate are geniuses.

It's a mediocre song for a first release.

I've never been a fan of the demo. The final (?) version is a bit better IMO, but still a completely average song, indeed.

And they should've left 'With This Tear' out of this release too.

They could've released a 45 rpm single with With This Tear as a b-side.

Why? Songs should always have a "home", i.e. an album they belong to. That's why I'm such a fan of the "Same Page, Different Book" compilation.

Terrible version of Stone. Will probably never listen to it again. The version we all have with the guitar to the fore is great. That combined with the embarrassing cover, corny ass title, random (and short) track list with no cohesion or theme. It’s plain to see these guys just don’t give a shit. I’m not even sure if it’s better than nothing. In fact, it probably isn’t. Shelve this shit. And don’t come back until you have a release worthy of his greatness. Or better yet, step down, and let competent people who care be in charge.

That's the real, open question for me. Are they finally going to release stuff more often now?

This release has Londell's touch/face all over it.

prince

Only 9 random studio tracks after a 3 years long wait so... even less than the bare minimum we could hope for. Where are all the Celebration tracks they played the previous years that we were supposed to hear ?

prince

it looks like this thief in the temple has once again found a way to punish the fams...

prince

Can we still have some hope he could leave/be ousted from the Prince Estate before we die ?

Very disappointing that it's only 10 songs and not at least a double album but I'm glad we're getting something. At least they're not using the Purple Rain font on the cover smile

I don't actually know this song too well, it must have passed me by, but sounds like a newer version.

Less raw, more overproduced than the bootleg.

Also, why choose a song not written by Prince to release!? lol

So, does this count as Originals II ?

-

Anyway, how many unreleased Prince albums are there?

How many unreleased 'not finished' prince projects are there? Even that would've been better...

-

But before we shoot the messenger,

let's wait and listen to the whole album.

Maybe they play it for the Celebration-goers as the announced unreleased music.

Then we'll know more via reports.

Only 'Maybe'... of course

That's the thing. If this is the beginning of more regular releases then I don't mind that it's just a 9 track album. Because at least we'll have more to look forward to. But if they're going to go radio silent again for another 3 or 4 years then this release is very disappointing.

These aren't all Prince versions of songs that he gave to other artists, so no biggrin

.

Actually feels more like a sampler set for future proper releases (That won't happen)

At first glance, this appears to be a very odd collection of songs. I am grateful to have something, but a transition from “Tick, Tick, Bang” (81) to “Heaven” and then “I Wonder” seems very… jarring?

This release seems more appropriate to repurpose tracks into Prince-themed playlists than as a standalone listen. I’ll pick it up for sure, but I don’t know how many times I’ll play this as an album.

Only song I’m excited for is “I Am You” because we finally we something from the For You era!
Tick tick Bang 81- is ok… we already have it in good quality so it’s not something groundbreaking.
Heaven- missing 3 minutes?! Why? Well,at least we get to hear the intro!
I Wonder- with an additional minute is cool so bring it!

The rest… I don’t really care for those… they could’ve added way more from the For You - Come/Gold Experience eras but noooo… they had to make this a 10 song release confused

I don't think this release is so bad, at least it will introduce some new songs to the public, it's not the boring bunch of retreads we feared.

But the cover art looks very AI to me, and that is incredibly shit considering how many thousands of stunning photos there are of Prince.

PIPS! Eurgh...

Of all the routes they could take (Bruce Springsteen, Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan or any othgwer artist who make good to great archival releases) the choose the '90s bootleg route lol
40 minutes on a CD because there focus is on the shitty low quality vinyl medium is also embarassing.
Prince's 10th year of being gone and all they can come up with a is 40 minutes of music in the same format as an average 90s bootleg.

Not doubting the source and maybe I’ve missed a post somewhere from The Estate or the record companies (it’s still early for me, the morning after the night before and all that) but just to flag that all that was announced on stage last might at 1st Avenue was a single would be available to preorder today - I say this more in hope that the actual tracklist will be more inspiring, longer and have a cohesive flow… 🤞

LOL. A tracklist so bad that you cannot believe it, and thus pretend it isn't true and that the estate will provide more and better.

.

My dude, this is from the official YouTube channel + the SDE site has confirmed it. This is it, all of it.

The number one thing that caught my attention is Sony Music is the label behind this. I thought that Sony was responsible for all of the non soundtrack albums and Warner Brothers had access to vault material.

If this is not the case now I understand why it's been a wait for us.

Sony is rushing a project out to get paid. That alone has pushed back a Parade SDE/Deluxe to the back burner.

Is there someone who could clarify this for me?

In this meeting Londell had with a few fans just after the release of With This Tear, he said the previous team released too much music so there you go. 10 tracks (one of them being a live track) just to fit that on one shitty Vinyl.

prince

Imagine someone having the balls to make such a utterly stupid comment like this in front of fans and expect them to agree with him eek

prince

I miss so much the previous guys in charge : Troy Carter, Michael Howe, Duane Tudhal, Trevor Guy... They made mistakes but they were all commited to the hard task of honoring Prince legacy and they were all dedicating to serving his music.

prince

After Bolas' mistakes/experiments on Originals, they listened to us and tried to release the original mixes when available and as time went by they tried to offer bigger SDEs so we can hear more music, etc...

prince

Honestly, I miss the time they were in charge, it was so much more exciting to be a Prince fan than it is now.

Yet he released the D&P SDE with 47 unreleased tracks, so he's completely full of shit.

It's a real mess isn't it? No theme, no cohesion, we've waited thirty odd years for a pristine version of Heaven and they cut it in half and give us an edited version, could go on and on and on.....

and the most annoying thing is no one at the Celebration will dare call them out on it........
