STONE

So what are people's thoughts on Stone?

I've seen a number of people refer to it as a cover version but musically it bares very little resemblance to Sandra St Victor's Nothing left To Give.

I think this version is better than the leaked version.

I'm pretty sure the new musical elements not present o the leaked version have not been posthumously added as I've seen suggested.

I think it's solid little pop song and would have been a worthy addition to Emancipation.

I like the minor/major changes.
but, i think it's missing a nasty guitar solo!

Welcome to "the org", nayroo2002… life, it ain't real funky unless it's got that pop

The leaked version probably had channels muted and would have sounded like a very naked, underproduced demo in the context of an album. Not the "wow" nakedness of when doves cry or tambourine- just a naked underproduced draft.

I hope and i truly believe nobody actually added music to prince's tracks but i guess this mix is reimagining the prince demo, enhancing it and bringing it to a reasonably professional sounding "real" song.

Can't say i hate it and can't say i feel violated.

A minor outtake, but still a SONG - not a fart like some tony M alternate rap over an existing beat, know what i mean?

And yeah, a weird lazy concept for an album

btw I only just heard sandra st victor's original
a. she's amazing
b. great tune
c. hardly any resemblence to prince's (it's almost insulting on his behlaf. but he clearly loved her stuff).

The credits don't mention Chris James, do they?
So... frankenstein or just a more finished version than the one we had?

Feels I'm in the minority but I much, much prefer the version we've had for years to this new one

I had the same reaction as back when Crystal Ball came out with a reworked version of Sexual Suicide that was vastly different from the bootleg we knew. It took some getting used to and now I love it. biggrin

With Stone, I was so used to the version we already had, I found the addition of synth orchestra unsettling at first, but now I'm getting familiar with it and guess it's not so horrific. lol

The new version is supposedly an outtake from the early 1996 configuration of Emancipation and I think the sound fits as Prince was into synth orchestrations at the time. biggrin

With both With This Tear and Stone being originals by Prince, my fear that Timeless would be Frankenstein mixes like Originals have been calmed, and I'm actually looking forward to the release even though I'm as disappointed as everyone else in that it's only a few tracks that seem like a drop in the ocean of what's in the Vault. confused
