Not sure whether I care… but I know that I’m fascinated by this whole slow train crash of a project. I can’t see the fans wanting to go and see this, and I can’t see the public wanting to see this. My expectation is that this is going to burn and then the estate will learn all the wrong lessons from its failure…. Probably leading to even less chance of any music release…. Who knows, but morbidly fascinating.

Also not suprised at all with the creative development as they want to make a woke version.

Probably more temper tamprums from the Estate.

The article points out that excerpts of some of the 9 songs, from the musical "Rain" album, were previewed last summer.

"This past summer the creative team held a glitzy look-see at the State Theatre with Broadway performers. That preview was attended by thousands of fans, from across the country and world. They listened to excerpts of some of the nine songs on the “Rain” album".

Good point - They may have just printed what they were told by the organisers - I think the name for this effect is Churnalism

I would love to be proven wrong, if there are any posts from fans around the world having attended

How is the Estate so clueless about what we, the fans, want and will open our wallets for...it's not as though they have to make the music or videos - it's already done.... we don't want trinkets and more purple vinyl rereleases...why keep forcing that on us.... Londell and Spicer and whoever else is running this shitshow need to take notice of us...they've got an eager fan based that they are all but ignoring...no communication + no releases = no $

Maybe I steal it or download it illegally, get drunk, smoke a big joint, then listen to it backwards, trying to find hidden messages by $picer and $ondell; ‘Don't buy the Rain Album, we're sorry...’

...knowing I was right. wink

Question, will there be a ‘barn scene’ with some substitude Apples' apples hanging out while she's on top of this would-be Prince?
Gees, the one having to play Prince, I already feel sorry for him.

Let the creatives take their time and let it develop--no problems here by me!

>

A theatrical production that includes Prince's music could be a major windfall for the estate, which would mean plenty of estate taxation cash to dispense to the state and feds and more resources to develop Prince merch and Vault-material output. I hope the musical does go on.

Just more distortion of what could have been a great legacy.
There was absolutely no reason for this in the first place.
Such a waste of a pure talent for it to be dumbed down and confused with an outside "idea".

Now it's just called, "rain".
Absolutely gutwrenching.

The "preview" was part of Celebration and it was at the State Theater, which has a capacity around 2100. I went and they were not at capacity. Maybe 3/4 full at most.

Indeed. Why the word ‘Purple’ was omitted is incomprehensible.
‘Purple’ is associated with Prince, ‘Rain’ is not!
‘Purple Rain’, or some other title like ‘When Doves Cry’, or ‘Take Me With U’ would have been great too. And it could fit any adaptation of the film's story.
Or why not just ‘Prince’ as a title,

Anything but 'Rain'...

my first thought on the delay was "Good, nobody is going to watch it anyway". As a long time Prince admirer I could think of better things to do.

Yes, it could also be the writers interpretation ofcourse..

I think it was called Purple Rain in the press release.

I had planned to go, but this move to November is a no-go for me. I have no intention of vacationing in Minneapolis in November (assuming the show even runs then).

Having recently seen the MJ musical and being wildly pleasantly surprised, I'm even more aggravated by the decision to adapt PR rather than do a more comprehensive jukebox musical style story of his life, which could teach non-fans or casuals a few things about the man and his legacy.

why would anyone go see a musical when they don't know anything about the guy?

“People”, whether it’s me or anyone, sometimes just like to go out and experience something, whether that’s because it’s got some hype about it or just out of curiosity, and not necessarily because we know anything about it. This musical, like the tea towels ain’t just for us obsessive folks.

Well, how many people today know anything about Alexander Hamilton? That didn't stop the Broadway musical about him from being a big hit. It was even filmed and shown on Disney+

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
