I don't know how many times I went to see this movie in 1984 into 1985. Where I lived, Prince didn't come. I remember feeling devastated when I moved to Florida for college and found out Prince performed in Tampa and I just missed it... razz

What a great summer that was. I was getting ready for my first year in high school. Watching PR brings back a lot of cool memories. I was a Prince fan already, but after the movie dropped and with the massive success of When Doves Cry, all my friends came around to the greatness of the little purple genius.

I love the PR DE, but yeah agree with you all that we need a SDE of this iconic album.

See, conversation’s better than bein’ lonely…

^^ Only 500 copies of this album were released in Japan. It's an extremely rare item, which is why it goes for outragous amounts of money on discogs. This is something that should have been a Record Store Day item this year!

Do you actually want any more vault releases?

Of course all the bullshit clothes they sell earn much more money but I imagine most of us on here are more interested in archival releases than that.

Nah,they’re gonna mainly focus on the stage musical. It wouldn’t surprise me if they stopped doing SDEs.

Then they're doing it wrong.

The estate really screwed up.If a Purple Rain 40th Anniversary SDE had been released this summer,it would be selling like hotcakes right now. This was their golden opportunity to finally release a big,multi-disc box set that will make us forget the flawed set that they put out several years back.

Oh well…I guess we can always look forward to the inevitable Purple Rain Stage Musical cast album next year rolleyes

After this huge failure, the only sensible thing now would be for Londell and Spicer to resign and let people who actually care about Prince's music and his legacy run the estate.

Or... sell the music to a label that will monetize it and keep the celebration & bedsheets for themselves.

I would RATHER see the music run by the estate than a label, but if they're not gonna do it, a label is better than nothing.
