They don't own the house. They're just hosting.

No one said they did. If you read the blurb, and even look at the hashtags, it's a partnership; a collaboration. They have no interest in owning a house thousands of miles away from their home like that. Prince bought the house at one point I believe. But the estate likely sold off a lot of those things after he died. He had a house on Dakota, and storage facilities, too.

In short, AirBNB are paying them a fee to be "hosts" of the house. I mean, they could get Bobby Z or Matt Fink to be "host" to the apartment in UTCM or something.

There are other "icon" locations, non-Prince, that they're doing. (ergo - read the blurb about it)

A new Airbnb is coming to Minneapolis this summer that gives a deeper meaning to living like a Prince.

Starting this August, fans of the genre-defying music artist Prince can reserve an overnight stay in the Longfellow house where the singer’s hit film Purple Rain was originally shot back in 1983. The reserved room, modeled after The Kid’s basement bedroom, is an exact replica of the one seen on film, with ambient purple lighting, Prince sheet music, and a mural of eyes peering over the bed.

Offering customers a chance to “sleep like The Kid himself,” the Airbnb experience also comes with an intimate tour of the Purple Rain House, myriad Prince memorabilia, never-before-heard recordings from the Purple Rain recording sessions, and the opportunity to speak with the star-studded hosts: Wendy and Lisa, Prince’s former Revolution bandmates.

The duo, usually based in Los Angeles, is coming back to the North Star State to perform with the rest of The Revolution at First Avenue on June 21 and 22, just in time for the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain and the opening of the Airbnb later this summer.

The house was first purchased quietly by Prince in 2015 for $117,000. The purchase was kept under wraps until after his death a year later. When the house was listed for sale online, it looked much worse for wear than it did in the film, with the property details reading: “This home needs to be rehabbed.” Now, nearly 10 years later, the house is restored to its former glory and open to the public.

“This will not only be the first time the home is restored, but also the first time it will be open to the public," Haven Thorn, communications manager for Airbnb, said of the rental to the Star Tribune.

Prices have not yet been revealed for overnight stays on the property.

Looks like a cool idea. Doesn't go live until August, though, and it's basically going to be a lottery/best storyteller system to be chosen as an actual guest. I'm very interested in what the pricing will be.
