40 isn't a major anniversary year so why all the noise about another Purple Rain release? I can't get excited about this when we just got a deluxe release of this era a couple of years ago. Sure they could make it bigger and better but they should wait until the 50th for that. I'd rather focus on other albums in the interim. Give me a Lovesexy/Black Album SDE first.

I didn't recognize that song title,so I looked it up on Princevault.
Blue Love is an unreleased song tracked and overdubbed on 28 December 1983 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, during the same session that yielded The Glamorous Life and Next Time Wipe The Lipstick Off Your Collar. The upbeat song consist of a Linn drum pattern, bass, Oberheim synth, and piano and has multiple layers of Prince. The lyrics tell the story of someone reflecting on a weekend love affair, describing the passion of a Saturday night, the mystical feeling of being with his partner on Sunday morning, and then how they are gone by Monday. The track was further worked on in March when a harp was added but remains unreleased.
YES! I wanna hear it too Prince was writing and producing so much music during that period (1983/84),I bet there are a ton of uncirculating tracks from that era.

I think you’re confusing that with Netflix having a contract to show the footage first, as part of a documentary that The Estate is now blocking.

does this mean they can't use it? I'm not an expert at this... does it mean that MakingMillioon has to share the profits of it's posible release on PR SDE with Apple? I'm really only interested in a PR SDE if it contains a bunch of unknown vault tracks we've never heard of before. The set should feature the 5 mind-blowing unreleased songs from the PR era that Morris Hayes mentioned, as well as G-Spot the extended version of 17 Days. Apollonia 6 - Remastered with outtakes (“Manic Monday,” Brenda’s version of “17 Days”)
Ice Cream Castle - Remastered with b-sides and outtakes (“Tricky,” studio version of “The Bird”)
Strange Tales from the Rain as a RSD release. Ideally, with a CD or streaming version.
Considering “Sex Shooter” and “Jungle Love” appeared on Originals, I’d assume there are Prince-vocal versions of everything from Ice Cream Castle and the Apollonia 6 album.
And although it doesn’t have a connection to the Purple Rain movie, Sheila E’s debut album came out that year. I’d love to see it remastered with non-album tracks (“Too Sexy,” the dance mix of “Belle of St Mark”), and the Prince-vocal versions!

You re so right. They should wait until the 100th anniversary, this or else the 10,000th anniversary. In this day and age to come, no vinyls, no CD, no streaming, the PR SDE will be just a file in a chip put inside your head (or worst).

Also that. - Actually, besides all we want, and what we know excist, they should FOR ONCE do a serious surprise! But I mean a serious surprise. I'm convinced there is a lot in that vault. Those are some great ideas.
I have another idea for a RSD release: a colored 12" vinyl of "Computer Blue (hallway version)" with "G-Spot" on the B-side.
Brenda Bennett recently said there are some upcoming things regarding Apollonia 6.She didn't go into detail but I hope it's related to the possible 40th Anniversary Purple Rain SDE.

A 12" Box ( ) Seriously, though... "When Doves Cry (Album Version) b/w "17 Days (Extended Version)" "Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix)" b/w "Erotic City 'make love...'") "Purple Rain (Full Version [here's where the estate gets a great editor/mixer])" b/w "God"/"God (Love Theme from...") "I Would Die 4 U (Extended Rehearsal Mix) b/w "Another Lonely Christmas" "Take Me With U (Full Version)" b/w "Computer Blue (Full Version)" "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

Why? ...we (nearly) have all this, except for TMWU Full Version... "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Good idea about this RSD release... And I didn't know Brenda said that. Source? Thank you.

I'd suggest them to stop trying to fit everything on vinyls and fill those CDs to the max.
That doesn't mean there shouldn't have a vinyl box set though. Just that it doesn't need to have all the outakes on it. [Edited 4/27/24 13:10pm]

Do u really thing that a real definitive SDE of PR will see the light of day this year ?....i have at this stage lay down all my expectations about it !
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Honestly, I have NO expectations at all. And the element of surpise, doesn't surprise me anymore. Not at my age. ;- And honestly, I'm at a point where I don't care anymore what they release. My purple thrill is (far) gone. Things I like to see released is everything till 1990, in SDE format, with a more original approach. Not just the classic form of a SDE as we know it.

And you know what? I (still) discover good stuff amonst my big collection. Especially in live bootlegs, i haven't listend to in ages. Same for the BFTP series. Plus here still is so much out there to be found. So my element of surprise is rather there... in my own goddman Prince collection. And, the fun of digging up a vinyl or CD here and there in second hand (or record) stores. - Fuck The Estate! ...for not releasing anything, and certainly for NOT communicating with us! We, the goddman steady waiting phat wallets! There, I said it. (I feel relieved now). "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Also looking at Prince Vault for unreleased songs from 1983/early 1984 Electrocution is an unreleased instrumental recorded at some point in 1983 at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio. I Know What To Say To You is an unreleased song recorded with Stevie Nicks on 16 July 1983, at the Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The song is sparse and somewhat experimental with only drums from the Linn and layers of synth. My Sex (a.k.a. May I Introduce My Sex To Yours?) is an unreleased song initially likely recorded somewhere in Spring 1983…Jill Jones has said “It was a really cool freaking song and he didn’t want that to come out at all. Ever!” Fox Trap is an unreleased song recorded in 1982 at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It is likely…the track was named after The Fox Trap that Prince visited regularly in the late 1970s and early 1980s…the inspiration for a club featured in the Purple Rain movie. Backwards Woman is a composition created for the film Purple Rain, tracked on 8 February 1984…it is the only composition from the score that is written by Prince and not Michel Colombier who did the rest of the score. It is the music used under the scene where Apollonia first visits The Kid's home and presses play on a cassette deck which has a tape with this music playing…about a minute and a half of it is featured in the movie. There may or may not be something coming!

i love all that freaky Prince stuff, but this is over-the-top freaky! Back in the day, i recorded that scene with my boom box and tediously turned the tape upside down in the cassette to play back the backward recording. It's Jill actually crying and saying, "No! I don't want to break up!" "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |
