The only reasoning to this I can think of is because they are wanting to fit these things in the vinyl version.. I wish more than anything they would make an “ultimate expanded edition” (or some other title) CD version and stack that thing up to its limit.. I long for an 18 cd set like Dylan has for his “the cutting edge” bootleg series In this case they miscalculated then since side2 of lp12 is totally blank. Makes it even more shamefull they left so many empty space on the discs when they have lots more stuff to choose from.

He did Blues with Pledge Allegiance. Is that one of his great talents. His ability to cover many genres. [Edited 10/28/23 6:33am] Something BIG Is Coming.

I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like “Something Funky (This House Comes)” and “The Last Dance” Either one of these jams would have been a good replacement for “Jughead” (which I still don’t like, lol).

Trouble. Great track. Pop perfection. Should’ve been on the album.

Nah there's a huge difference in quality and sound compared to the mid 1985 to early 1987 period. Those SSL consoles at Paisley were too clean sounding and took the edge out of his music. They changed his sound. Then he mastered the music way too loud which destroyed the dynamic range [Edited 10/28/23 12:25pm]

Shocked at some of the negativity here. This is a great set, the vault tracks are varied and full of surprises, like three new Prince albums, and the concert, well that's just jaw-dropping stuff right there. My goodness Prince wasn't human, he was something else.

So has anyone worked out which tracks we can now delete from our outtakes collections because they are duplicates of what has been released on this boxset?

Did I like the unreleased songs on Prince's album? Are they important stuff?
They are interesting, there are fewer hidden jewels than the previous SDEs, even fewer pieces that fans were waiting for but - with a view to having an increasingly complete picture of Prince's music-making - this collection offers moments of enjoyable music and here and there also thrilling. But what's inside? . . .

The live stuff is amazing. Michael is killing the drums, dude is so underrated. It was interesting hearing the audience sing Sexy MF at the chorus 6 months before the song was released. Prince sounded surprised [Edited 10/29/23 13:33pm]

Darkside is obviously an earlier version of Blood On The Sheets.. but does anyone else prefer Darkside? The guitar work and overall groove is just doing more for me personally. Anyone else?

The "Originals" shouldn't really be analyzed they're like "Vault" or "Unreleased" material. They're not stuff he threw away in a room, it's material he actively ensured got released, just not under his own name.
