Now that you've pointed it out. I can't unhear it!

Vault disc 2

Daddy Pop 12vinch mix.

Nothing too exciting.

Martika's Kitchen

I think the Martika version with the extra production is a better version. Just a better sounding version of the leaked track we've had for years.

Spirit.

I prefer this to the Martika version. Nice bit of dance pop.

Open Book.

Fantastic song. So good to finally have it in sounding so good.

Work That Fat

Glad it's been included. Funny and funky. Love the guitar on it.

Horny Pony 2.

I like multi track vocals. The version I streamed from qobuz sounds a lot better than the vinyl rip I had. I really like how minimalist it is.

Something Funky band version

I have no problem with Tony and love this. Great rythmn guitar. I wish it had Rosie on it. It sounds so fat and funky. I love Michael 's drumming on it.

Hold Me.

I haven't listened to this song in years. I even deleted the version I had years ago because I hated it. Listening today, I still hear the sappiness within the song and I think I should hate it, but actually enjoyed it.

Blood on The sheets.

Such a jolt from Hold Me to this. It's really great. The drumming, and the soloing. I wonder if at some point he put a vocal on it. Probably one of his heaviest tracks. Brings to mind, Call Of The Wild and also Third Eye Girl.

The Last Dance.

I always enjoyed Jughead. More funky fun stuff.

Don't Say U Love Me.

Excellent new jack swing style pop. Love it.

Another highly enjoyable disc. There's more on this disc I'm familiar with so I think that lessens it's impact on initial listening compared to disc 1.

Songs that I would've rather had anything else other:

Daddy Pop 12 inches
D&P Long Version
Darkside
Cream Take 2
Thunder Ballet

agreed. although I do like Cream Take 2 a lot. but instead of that boring Thunder Ballet
we could have had 3 songs of 3+ minutes.

Woof. This is a difficult listen. I guess I'm impressed by how hard he went in. He did not hire Heavy D for a guest verse on one song; he went full emersion, belly flop on hard ice. Vanilla Ice, to be exact. Just the sound of a man lost in the woods, ass out, following his muse wherever it went, and boy, it went.

I'm with you guys- the unheard Vault songs I was unfamiliar with ranged from mediocre to garbage. All the gems (Open Book, Schoolyard, Get Blue, The Voice) I've already had for 32 years and didnt sound much different than I remember them.

One initiail observation though as I get through this for the first time is how little Tony M is on the vault tracks. Besides Last Dance I can't recall any others that involve him. Maybe Something Funky Band Version? Interesting how he's all over the released album but otherwise invisible.

100 percent this!

The live lp is fantastic..Daddy pop is amazing on there with the band turning the funk up to the max and sounds even more sly stone live.

Vault tracks are a bit meh...definitely nothing there that deserved a place on D and P actual.

Alice through the looking glass is the only interesting track...just wish it was one of the tracks that was more finished.

I think it's fantastic. So do alot of other people.

Still waiting for my copy (arriving tomorrow). I'm not surprised by this mixed reaction. D&P isn't my favourite era of Prince. But it's Prince - even on a bad day, he was better than most. We have better SDEs to come. But I'm sure there's plenty of great stuff in this release and I'm looking forward to hearing it.

I'm gonna be honest - I like or love pretty much every song on the album proper and on the vault discs.

But I'm not going to pretend that most of this is top shelf material, it's just not. I like pretty much every note this guy recorded cause I'm crazy, but some of these songs just go nowhere.

Get Blue and Alice are my favorites and the others are all pretty good. Like others said the other ones I really like are the ones I already have (schoolyard and Open Book).

But this was never my fave album or era so its not wowing me. I might pick it up the album on vinyl but streaming the SDE is enough for me.

Waiting on Parade, Dirty Mind, Controversy, ATWIAD, and Lovesexy SDEs!!

Prince really should have kept “Open Book” for himself and released it as a single. To me,it sounds like a number one hit music

Parade is the top of my list but, I'm wondering if they might release ATWIAD and Parade as a double Lp Sde as ATWIAD was the bigger seller and they seem to be sticking to the biggest releases.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a Batman one too tbh

Only listened through a couple of times but so far Skip 2 My U My Darling stands out.

Odd that Rosie is missing from Something Funky. I guess that’s why it’s called “Band Version”. But there must be a final version with her, surely!?

I think it's pretty good overall.

The word melancholic springs to mind. Which is a little odd given how upbeat The D&P album is. I'd like to know just how many D&P outtakes there are, how many of the songs on the set were seriously considered for a place on the album, as opposed to just being recorded around that time.

The nod to Batman on the Thunder Ballet as someone else pointed out is cool. As is the "In the mood" interpolation... The random occurrence of him playing it at Bagleys finally makes sense.

Blood On The Sheets and Darkside are surprising. I can't believe that were ever intended for the album. I'm glad they're here though, to add some verity. Darkside especially, with him sounding completely indifferent while playing. Completely different to his flamboyant stage persona and Hendrix faces.

I think some reactions I'm reading are based on having already heard some of the stand out songs (Open Book etc). Each to their own, but I'm not sure "I've already heard that" is a fair critique.

Just opened my package. Like SOTT, the packaging for the Diamonds SDE CD version is over-kill. Gotta figure out how to store it.

Maybe I need another listen, but is Rosie missing too? Even on songs meant for her album.

Also, striking how many “originals” tracks are on this set! It seems there were little rejected tracks for D&P. Mostly alt versions.
I assume more proper “vault tracks” have been saved for the Love Symbol SDE.
