my least favorite thing with all of these auctions are the braindead people who scream about how this stuff is "stolen" and should be "returned to paisley" when a: prince barely could give a shit about where this stuff ended up once he was done with it and b: paisley and the estate gives even less of a shit

It bothers and saddens me when this happens, regardless of how they were acquired by the seller. Why not give the estate first dibs??

if the estate showed they were interested in preserving and publicizing stuff like this PROPERLY (ie: more than the cutesy snippets of reels and lyrics included in the SDE books) then i'd be more upset they don't have them, but... we were probably never going to see this otherwise. and this is extremely cool stuff to read

We get them with the SDEs so that's some compensation.

I think he DEFINITELY cared bout his possessions. My God, he kept almost every car (ever see the list), and had a nearby warehouse full of Paisley Park overflow.
BUT, like many people, he didn't want to think about or take action about after-death planning. He wasn't old; how many of us at middle-age think our time is up?
Many, many people told him he needed to take care of his assets after his death but he ignored them. He made statements like "I'm not going to die" to some.
In the Questlove "Purple Roundtable" podcast, PA/Manager Ruth Azarte relates a conversation she had with him. He was resisting planning and she says "If you don't, you know who gets it?" "No. WHO?" he replied.
"THE GOVERNMENT!"

Trusts would have protected mis many millions....but then, who would he have left it to, anyway. I think he wanted Chaos and Disorder.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I agree. By all accounts he was a pack rat.

Wel, I doubt we'll get these if they do a Rainbow Children era SDE now!

Does no one find it suspicious that this notebook has page after page of completely finished lyrics, barely any corrections, all complete, no rejected or unheard songs?

.

I admit I've not studied it too hard... Are there any alternate lyrics, that changed in the final recording, or are these all exactly what was recorded? I'd find that fairly hard to believe. eek

I am curious, does the seller have to prove ownership?

I have no reason to doubt the authenticity (I have no expertise) , but I do find it interesting that the lyrics for Va Voom appear to be entirely crossed out in pencil.

I have seen a few of these notebooks over the years and some songs appear to be written down "sprung in completion" with very few differences to the final lyrics and others like "Back When" AKA Days of wild and She`s always in my hair were pretty different in places.

^ there would be nothing precluding the estate from using them, they are still P`s intellectual property. The estate could even use the images from the auction smile

Yeah I guess, the scans look high enough resolution to use.
