Best Ad for the D&P SDE - that Arsenio Hall performance

It's too bad the Estate could not get any rights to use that performance....whether the video of it or the audio. It seems odd that a performance that relevant to the era and great would not be mentioned.

hopefully Andrea's podcast will cover it in some degree.

For sure. One of Prince's best (if not THE best) TV appearances ever.

I was talking to Fenwick about the Aresnio performances.

Frankly, the sound isn't that great. Compare the "Cream" performances of Arsenio to the newer Glam Slam release, it's night and day. Arsenio performance sounds thin and spartan. It's just nowhere. But the Glam Show show is 1000% better, fuller, just amazing.

Now, if there was a better soundboard recording that could be remixed (like the Syracuse video), then that'd be something to go after.

I don't know if Paramount owns it or Hall's production company that produced it. Or maybe they just didn't feel it was worth putting on there.

I do agree that it's a big part of D&P and prince but maybe it'll end up somewhere else. We also have to consider that many the estate does own the rights to the performance (many big artists will contract for that for future use, almost like an exclusive license or something), and they just didn't want to include it anywhere.

I see both sides, but the sound needs help. Frankly, the Glam Slam show is more valuable.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I have only heard the Glam Slam show yet, so I have HUGE anticipation for that.

However, the dopest part of Arsenio '91 is Let's Go Crazy into Kiss and he didn't do these at Glam Slam. Yeah, I know it's basically the Nude Tour routine dressed up in D&P stylings, yet it is so so so fierce.

The sound is thin because we have only ever heard the compressed television broadcast. It is likely an ownership issue.

The Glam Slam show truly is superb sounding.

Didn't Arsenio own his own show? It was syndicated wasn't it? This seems like something the Estate could do but Spicer's tweeting "oh yeah licensing and rights yeah yeah that's the ticket".

I honestly cannot see anyone being unsatisfied with the sound or anything else about it.

Yes, would've been good promo if they put together a video and got Arsenio and the band talking through the show.

.

Plus be good to get the full performance of the alternate version of Call The Law that was played as the credits rolled.

The Arsenio performance was really good, but it seems more odd to me that a spectacular 50 date tour has been deemed irrelevant by the people who put this package together. Audio and/or video from one of those shows should have been included.

Formerly TheDigitalGardener etc.

Not complaining about the stellar Glam Slam shoe but I also am surprised they didn’t release a D&P shoe.

Is this part of the Designer Collection?

I watched the Glam Slam show BluRay last night and it's really great, a bit 'dry' (don't know how to better describe it) on the visuals but a great document.

No, the mtv performance of gett off is the one.
Thats era defining. And one of his most memorable tv appearances.

Personally i dont like this sped up, horns blasting, unnecessarily livened up version of cream. It loses a lot of what makes that song so good on record. Most of the time when prince sped up songs live, they were great, but not always.

Picture quality is great. But to me it looks a bit 'dry' overall (i don't konw how to call it, it'l like a pastel like filter is over it, but that could just be me) but the colors are popping and the performance and show is awesome.

Considering it is from 1992, I'm glad it looks good.

I am surprised by a few things -

1. that there is a store that actually stocks box sets.

2. That they ordered 50!

3. That they all sold out.

they have about 100 sets they said (including the non SDE only album version vinyls and CD's)
2 years ago when i posted about it being on there release schedule (and every update since with people making fun of me neutral and saying D&P SDE would never be done before a Parade SDE, LOL) I was asked which Record Store it was and I gave them the name of it so my guess is all those Dutch fans that knew the store flocked to there to get it.

Was this blu ray as well edited as the Welcome 2 America Blu Ray? Lots of great camera angles?

Not complaining but why "Diamonds And Pearls" from the soundcheck was not included?
