These could be in place of the edits, which I’ve never understood why anyone would want them

I don't get why anyone would want a remaster of an album released in 1991 CD era,

.

a) Mastering technology has come a long way since then.

.

b) A 1990s master often "sounds" 1990s, with a lot of mid and not enough bass.

.

c) Remastering it now means you can ensure that all tracks can be mixed in a playlist and you don't get wildly different audio levels. Moreover, they can also be mixed with other albums that were mixed along the same standard.

i liked the duff mckagan piece in the 1999 SDE

some contextual essays by swenson and tudahl are good i think

i dont need overly political axe grinding essays though

or pointless celeb 'notes' or 'introductions' that add nothing

but yeah id like some interviews with band members, for sure

michael bland especially - hes always good in interviews

be a shame if he has no input on this

i know people are unhappy to not have two live shows, but after the SOTT utrecht show sounding limp AF, maybe this show will at least be a great document of the tour/band at this stage. though it now makes me wish the first ave show of the SOTT tour was on the SOTT SDE instead.

yeah yeah, the same propaganda hype I've been reading about "remasters" since I was getting banned from AOL chatrooms in the 4th grade.

Fact remains 90% of them suck in actual practice.

Playlist schmaylist. Sick of gotdam playlists. Society needs to break free from this strangehold the stupid playlist has taken over the very fabric of social existence. Every website now you can't bring up a single obscuro track without a "UH, you got a SPOTIFY PLAYLIST there?!?!?" "nope they're uh, not on Spotify.." "............................................." I just wanna know if that was what Dr. Dingleberry was alluding to when he said something about how "ingrates and infantile ingnoramuses will be complaining about this when they simply don't understand the intracies of putting together a release" blah blah whatever he was alluding to while trying to blatantly jack Prince's trademark crypicisms.

ha. im also unconvinced about most remasters. though i did like the late 90s stevie wonder and marvin gaye ones where they had an extra disc of unreleased material (i guess this was the same as the prince SDEs, just not as massive). but a lot of modern remasters seem to be designed to please streamers, or done in mind with modern production tastes (eg the recent stones exile on main street i remember being really weird if you have heard the original). im sure there are some good ones, and its prob just me being a purist, but i tend to think, what was released, is how it was meant to be really. except in some circumstances, when an alternative mix can make the album quite different, like the iggy pop mix of raw power, but even then, the bowie mix, for its oddness, still rules lol. it was released that way for a reason. D&P sounds thin, a bit weedy in places (thunder), cos yknow, it was released in 1991.

Should Letter 4 Miles be on this set?

there is no consistency on these sets lol. but maybe that was really recorded earlier, who knows.

I’ve always suspected that dates “experts” think they know may not be correct… or not the whole story.
Maybe something small was added or remixed in Feb 92, but rest was recorded far earlier.

It is arguably a prince track as it was originally recorded in September 1991 along with tracks like My Name Is Prince and Gett Off's Cousin. smile

I totally agree, it seems a backward step from the SOTT SDE, to only have one show on this D&P set, especially given how many great shows Prince played at this time - the Glam Slam one surely can’t be the only concert that the audio was recorded well. Saying that though, it is appreciated that this show is easy for the technophobe to listen to - blu-ray audio shouldn’t be so complicated to rip! Even some of the more tech savvy people still struggle (e.g. see this Steve Hoffman thread https://forums.stevehoffm...o.1158488/ - hurts my brain just thinking about the number of steps to get the audio, then by the sounds of it, often failing). Overall, I’m looking forward to this SDE, could have been more on it but at least it’s a release this year, and perhaps it’s a pathway to more frequent stuff - if all we get in the next 18 months is this and another half-hearted Purple Rain release, then that’ll be the time to riot at the gates of Paisley Park 🤣
There may or may not be something coming!

Gotta eat some humble pie here and say that I'm really happy with this release. I was sure they'd tie the blu-ray to the vinyl like they did with W2A, but they seemed to have heard our complaints and didn't do that. And at $102 Canadian, this is completely reasonable. Sure I'd like to have the audio of a different live show, but I can see the other side, too. Anyway, well done.

Indeed from Canada seems to be the lowest price but why order can't be made for shipping to France ?

That site isn't the end-all be-all, either; for example, Brenda Bennet has stated quite clearly in interviews that Manic Monday was originally recorded by Vanity for the second V6 album, but that site lists its first recording being in 1984. It also makes sense that Manic Monday was recorded earlier, as its melody is quite similar to that of the verses of 1999, and Princevault notes in its Trivia section that Prince's original organ arrangement uses the Oberheim OB-X and that this is unusual because by 1984 Prince rarely used the OB-X and had moved-on to using the newer OB-8. The OB-X was what he used to record 1999 and Vanity 6.

Now perhaps 1984 was the first documented recording of Manic Monday, as we all know Prince recorded a lot on the road and in his home studios, but documentation of all that won't ever be as complete as studio recording session records.
