Insatiable, Glam Slam 91, Live 4 Love, Letter 4 Miles and Thunder Ballet are not lossless files - they all cut off at 16k.
What's really strange is that there is a section of Thunder Ballet that does exceed 16k. This is the end of the song itself, from about 2:40 to 3:00.
. I see this all the time, so let's get the record straight: just because a file cuts off at 16k it does not necessarily mean it went through a lossy data-compression. Lots of vinyl production masters cut off at 16k or 17k (or even as low as 15k), for example. Also: LPFs work by applying a slope of attenuation, so it's not like a brickwall that doesn't let anything pass. An LPF set at 16k can still result in some higher frequencies to remain if they were very loud in the source material. . |

. Of course I can't say what they used (I haven't even heard the upcoming stuff yet), I'm only saying that a 16kHz cutoff in itself is not an undisputable 'smoking gun' for having used an mp3 as a source.
To be honest though, I would also wonder how it is possible that they only find a vinyl production master for something but not the original mixdown nor the multitrack. And for several songs? Highly unlikely. Similarly: how likely it could be that they find mp3s of some songs but no masters, no multitracks? There are so many questions and I hate that they don't communicate. . So what I am sure of is that whatever they use and do, they should be transparent about it in the liner notes. We deserve explanations, especially after so many f...ups. . |

Honestly I'm not really that excited for this. The anticipation isn't there. I think it's a combination of this being the same old shit re: shooting themselves in the foot by severely limiting the scope and contents of releases like these and the fact that D&P SDE has been "around the corner" since October 2020. I'm just tired of it. Hopefully the PR40 SDE isn't half assed the way 1999, SOTT, and D&P were. Or better yet, hopefully they ditch the antiquated SDE system all together. |

. SDEs could be great if 1: they would focus on the album and only include outtakes that are directly linked to the album, and if 2: they would be comprehensive, including ALL versions of the songs. I know it's an unpopular choice but I would make them CD-only, as I see no reason of putting out 12-15 different versions of a song on vinyl and shipping massive and heavy, 12-15 LP boxes around the world. . And for all the vault material that isn't directly linked to certain albums, I would compile them into new albums and put them out as such, giving them far more chance to shine on their own (instead of just being buried in a huge SDE box of some other material). Totally new Prince albums generate more PR than SDEs of old albums – and less diehard fans will be more likely to buy them than SDEs. . There's an entirely different message of SDEs and new albums to casual fans: if they see a (let's say) Diamonds And Pearls SDE, most will think "I already have that album, I don't need to spend a fortune on it again just to have some extra demos too". They don't know that in Prince's case the "extra demos" are actually fully finished, and often great songs. That is not the norm for deluxe editions. But seeing a "new Prince album" they will go: "Oh, a brand new Prince album? I must get that!" |

I would be even more radical: SDE with all the alternate/rehearsal/live version of album songs.
AND
Vault series as new albums with ONLY unreleased music every year. |

That would be literally endless and really unneccessary to be released. Just think about how many dozens of CDs they could fill with just the hours and hours of rehearsals for ONE song, let alone the live versions. Would you really purchase a 46 CD box of just one song? And for all the songs? |

Sorry: I didn't mean all the alternative versions of each song, but an SDE that includes all the alternative versions chosen, with even multiple versions of the same song. |

I’ll echo what others have said about more expanded/comprehensive sets. There should be no issue in creating “super deluxe” vinyl set and then still offering an even more comprehensive CD/digital set.
Things like Bob Dylan’s 18 CD “The Cutting Edge Set” or Miles Davis “Complete Sessions” sets..
those would never work on vinyl both from a practical listening standpoint and cost standpoint, but absolutely work in a CD/digital format.

I’m also of the mind they could be more comprehensive with footage.
If we take just Diamond & Pearls era as an example, the Glam Slam Show, a D&P Tour Show, and more of that rehearsal footage that was leaked a while back, would be 3 very different viewing experiences encapsulating/documenting him as a performer and bandleader.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very thankful for the Super Deluxe releases, but there is still much to be expanded upon. |

On iTunes the track timings are now showing for the whole studio album, Live 4 Love (Early Mix) and Get Blue.
.
In the past this indicates what tracks are being released in that week...be surprising to release the whole album now but maybe we're getting L4L and Get Blue this week... |

From the leaked songs I like the ' The Voice' the best. Classic Prince. Same as Open Book and Get Blue, not released yet, but in the same league. Songs like glamslam91 , the last dance and something funky are fun but I understand why they are not released. [Edited 9/26/23 12:16pm] |

I kinda like "glam slam '91".
I was actually sort of looking forward to it being on this set since I figured the sound upgrade would be huge. Until I realised, listening to the new leak, that it is actually supposed to sound like that
There is some significant update in some of his (add lib) vocal tracks but the overall sound of the song I guess was always supposed to be so flat and 'washed through a 1940s radio' jingle.
Still, the Girl, I must confess your finesse is stunnin' line alone is worth listening to it

The leak is mono. Surely it will be in stereo and sound much better on the official release.
I hope so. I think I noticed another audio watermark in one of the leaked tracks, so let's hope the mono GS91 is also just a bootlegger signature to keep track of who shared what, when and where.

Get Blue and Live 4 Love Early Version have just been released.
Live 4 Love is an early version, but not so early in the end...I think they just released the official CD version labelling it early version by mistake...(I mean the version on YouTube)

Similarly for Live 4 Love the tape on the YouTube video shows “12/5”, which is presumably the date 5 December. Prince Vault date for Live 4 Love as “Basic tracking took place in the last week of December 1989, at Paisley Park Studios (during the same session as Diamonds And Pearls”, with additional recording in early 1991. It’s good to see some more of the history be revealed. There may or may not be something coming! |

The full remastered album was a nice surprise, and it sounds great so far. Get Blue sounds very nice as well. Live 4 Love early version doesn’t sound great, but it’s definitely cool to hear. Very interesting how it remained pretty much intact from 89-91. And who knew The Flow originated from this song? |
