Posted this elsewhere, but it seems the Vault CDs aren’t chronological, so launching with Schoolyard is pretty much a deliberate statement of intent. I have my criticisms of the Estate - and this set - but have to admit this is a positive and confident indicator of non-censorship in the future. Censoring Prince misses the point of his artistry entirely.

[Edited 8/24/23 15:25pm]

OK, I read this, read Lustualways' response. I get it now....both are saying that the Estate is not concerned with the current climate where things Prince said decades ago will be judged in today's (over sensitive) climate. Num23 says, School Yard being the first track is intentional...they were not going to bury it within the 3 vault discs. Lust is saying, censoring Prince was never considered.

GOOD....

I did listen to School Yard last night...actually, i had dismissed it but the music is pretty cool. In good sound, this is going to a great track The lyrics....ha...funny Prince.

Isn't he just singing what (I think) most people experienced at the 14-16 year old age?
I see nothing 'problematic' in the lyrics or song.
Who didn't get it on in the schoolyard??

I didn't, but not for lack of wishing smile

I don't get the issue...he's not saying that he was an adult and was looking for a 14 year-old to fall in his lap...from what I'm recalling, he doesn't even mention his own age I figured he was 14 too....who cares.

I understand that the conventional thinking is that any new Prince music is “automatically awesome.” That being said, the real test for me is if I keep revisiting a new track. And I’ve been revisiting the f**k out of “Alice Through The Looking Glass”. biggrin

Princevault puts this song as being recorded in 90 or 91. It’s possible it was recorded and considered for prince in 1991, as well as Player.

That works out to be about £66/US $83/€77, cheapest in Europe seems to be Amazon France at the moment at €144, which equates to £124/US $156. Either of them are a big difference to the typical UK price of about £160. German prices are even higher at about €210/£180/US $226. Has France and Canada not been affected much by inflation compared with the rest of us, well UK and Germany anyway.
There may or may not be something coming!

Hmm.

That's why i posted that standalone "topic" with all possible prices in all available regions.

I hope that helped people to decide what the best possible offer was for them, no matter where they are?

Also "edit":

I ordered mine from JPC for 170,- euros in Germany.

I’ve gotten too busy with life stuff to put the same energy into analyzing and criticizing (even if legit) some of the finer details of these releases, but I’ll say this; I’ve really enjoyed the releases by the Prince estate. Given that he passed with no will, things could be a lot worse.

Really stoked for this release. D&P may be my favorite Prince album, it gets better with each listening - the variety of material is damn near perfect. I’ve really enjoyed the box sets of SOTT and W2A.

Yeah you're right,

Qobuz lets you buy all individual tracks except 2 that are locked out unless you buy the entire SDE.

The way Clockin The Jizz was joined with Gangster Glam on the maxi, home video and even combined on some remixes it seems strange to not include it.
.
Same with the early version of The Flow, with Rosie on and was even on early configurations of the album. You’d think that was a no brainier
.
These could be in place of the edits, which I’ve never understood why anyone would want them

And the video (credits come later on it)! Neither on YT channel nor the DVD ! I already highlighted it. Glad 2 have still the VHS and Laserdisc rip.

Too bad that they put the audio of the Glam Slam (we didn't have the audio of the night eve for SOTT SDE) instead of a main show of the tour.
BUT, I'm happy !

I was hoping for the version of willing & able from the home vhs.

Arguably, his greatest vocal performance and the band sounded incredible. Would take this over some of the disposable and dated stuff on that track list.

Well, see, they couldn't include all the outtakes nor fill the three vault CDs to the brim because then it wouldn't fit on the 5LP vault tracks set.

.

But hey, you can enjoy the essay by a "social media personality" in the book that comes with the set.

I beg your pardon. I underestimated how much this country likes to rip people off. The cheapest you can get the CD deluxe set is €230. So I think it's fair to say I'll be missing out in the physical version of this release.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the unreleased songs but I can't afford to pay that kind of money for 3 CDs of vault material and a Blu Ray.

They couldn't get Prince's bestest BFF Dave Chapelle to remind casual fans of the pancake bit for the 3,764th time?

Tony M. should've written the liner notes. Let him finally clear the record on the real story; How a Minnesotan with a vision and en empire entrusted a decade of his life's work to a young emcee with mic and a dream.

I don't get why anyone would want a remaster of an album released in 1991 CD era, but everything possible should be included for completist sake. Especially if we're adding 2 CDs that duplicate the Blu-Ray, especially if 1 of the 2 aformentioned dupe CDs has like 60 minutes of empty space available anyway.... whyyy can't they just be tagged onto that disc oh right because the Estate doesn't want an excess piece of vinyl in their 32LP set.
