"Streetwalker" is very close to "Trust". Fast groove with Prince whispering "Work it, baby". Really nice piano solo, bu the song doesn't really go anywhere.
"Lauarianne" is a rock song. Early Bealtles-like vocals. It's a nice groove.

Posted this elsewhere, but it seems the Vault CDs aren’t chronological, so launching with Schoolyard is pretty much a deliberate statement of intent. I have my criticisms of the Estate - and this set - but have to admit this is a positive and confident indicator of non-censorship in the future. Censoring Prince misses the point of his artistry entirely. [Edited 8/24/23 15:25pm] |

No hate to you, but at no point between this set's conception and right now was Schoolyard ever in danger of being "censored" - literally the reason for Lust and Extraloveable was that he said the word in the song in that context, that's it. I promise you there was no more thought put into it than that. Schoolyard, while graphic, isn't the same as the situation with the other two songs.
Trust me. |

OK. nice to have, that's all.
Not much happening, two chords.
I understand why he didn't release it.
Drumloop, no Princy-breaks.
More a demo than a fully produced track.
To each their own...I've been playin the shit out of it since it popped up in my Apple Music. I can't get enough of it!! Same! It’s mesmerizing. That rolling bass and vocals.[/quote It’s pretty plastic & repetitive sounding, while I like the vocal layering its not a song I’d revisit much . |

It is. I've heard it.
Ah damn. Weird to choose that one instead of the one slated for the album. I secretly hope they'll do remasters of Cream and Gett Off EP's for record store day (also on CD) just to complete the set with all original the releases remeastered.
It would be nice to have the Gangster Glam remixes too, especially Hurley’s. I love the house versions. |

Found this old org thread about Laurianne - I’d also seen that a Laurianne was mentioned in the D&P liner notes. Will be interesting to see more detail about the version on the SDE. https://prince.org/msg/7/60299There may or may not be something coming! |

I doubt its any of that
Its simply that its another of many songs in pop music about under age sex (ie less problematic than some here might think)
And it doesnt mention the r-word
Plus its one of the first songs he did for the album iirc which is probably why its up there
Tbh its also one of the strongest outtakes from this period (going from memory) which is another reason [Edited 8/25/23 0:00am] |

I'll reserve my judgement until I can actually listen to the track. I sure hope they didn't edit the problematic parts out. This is not very likely, but you never know...
Edit (reading the lyrics again): ok, they would have to edit most of the track if they thought it was problematic... [Edited 8/25/23 0:16am] |

Exactly.
Let's wait for it to be released to check the track has not been edited out but i agree that it's a very good sign for the future. Who are we to censor his music ?
It makes me smile when people say that Prince wouldn't have release this or that.
Prince is not there anymore so which Prince are we talking about ? The one over his 50's, the one in his prime or the young Prince recording music in his basements.
There's not just one Prince now, there are lots of them. So which one is more relevant and why should we ask the older Prince if Schoolyard should be released when this song was written when he was 30.
Anyway, looks like a good point for the new Estate. |

Well, we know for a fact that all of the Princes you mention didn't release Schoolyard, so the only theoretical Prince we can be talking about when we say what we think he would or wouldn't do, is the one that would exist had he not died. |

I remember hearing about I Pledge Allegiance 2 Your Love as a possible album track, on a 1-900 number, back in the day (possibly called Purple Underground?). Either I incorrectly assumed, or was given incorrect information, that Allegiance is the same song. Other titles mentioned included Do U Wanna Rock, and Pocket Rocket. You could even call and listen to Schoolyard, for like $2 a minute. My mother was thrilled when the phone bill came. JorisE73 said:

He sure did not release it but he recorded it.
As you said he's not there anymore and the Estate is releasing his archives. That's a whole different approach than Prince releasing all of these demos during his lifetime in one of his albums.
That was my point. [Edited 8/25/23 2:07am] |
