Prince's Guitar-based / Rock albums So, I've started the day with Plectrumelectrum. I was thinking about which of Prince's albums were more band based and guitar driven. So far I've thought about Purple Rain, Chaos and Disorder and Lotusflower. Any other suggestions?πβοΈπΈ

TRC is pretty heavy on the guitar too.

I've just finished listening to Lotusflow3r and it sounds awesome π Dreamer is so poignant today and the guitar is cranked up to 11 (Spinal Tap reference, exhibiting my age and listening habits). Thanks, great choice bringing back great memories π

I've always considered The Gold Experience a more guitar/rock oriented album, despite the heavy funk tracks on it. "Endorphinmachine," "Gold," "319," "Shhh," "Dolphin," "I Hate U" are all guitar-centered or prominent, IMO. Endorphinmachine Let's Go Crazy Bambi Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad Little Red Corvette When U Were Mine Computer Blue Gold Purple Rain Dance On Electric Chair etc etc etc Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

From "Princevault:
>>Love Like Jazz is the seventh track on Princeβs 33rd studio album Lotusflow3r. Basic tracking took place on 19 November 2004, during a three-and-a-half hour session with Michael B. on drums and Sonny T. on bass at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota that also yielded 3121, From The Lotus..., ...Back 2 The Lotus, Colonized Mind, Wall Of Berlin, Planet Earth, Guitar, a song titled Shameless as well as two or three others. A tape photographed in Princeβs vault at Paisley Park Studios lists Wall Of Berlin as 19 November 2004, which alludes this is the exact date for all of the songs in this sessions. In an August 2006 interview, Michael B. said [they recorded] eleven or twelve tracks in three and a half hours that night. On a different occasion he later indicated that this was the last recording session they did with Prince for a while after that.<< I made a playlist based on this info: 1. 3121 2. Wall of Berlin 3. Colonized Mind 4. Guitar 5. Love Like Jazz 6. Planet Earth 7. From the Lotus 8. Back 2 the Lotus And that would have been a great guitar based album for me. If anybody cares: https://open.spotify.com/...bVZNHb79GA And of course I agree with "The Undertaker", "Rainbow Children", "Chaos and Disorder" and "Purple Rain". Plus ONA Live. i keep thinking ive mised something out but it really is just PR, chaos, lotusflower isnt it? the undertaker is an album i guess, but a live in the studio album really, not a proper album. chaos is actually really underrated. ppl think its just a piss off warner/end the contract filler release, but its better than that, even if that was how it was put together. chaos is actually better than gold tbh. it has better ballads than gold does. better hard rockers than gold. and its also shorter, so only one bad song (and its only bad cos of rosie and the dancehall MC. i.e. i rock therefore i am). plectrum electrum i guess IS a prince album, but its also more a 3EG album, and its not too good either. lotusflower is at least better than that one. Great discussion guys! It's absolutely fascinating that we all find it tricky in categorising Prince's work. Even now, after years of listening and familiarity, it's hard to categorise songs like When Doves Cry, Diamonds and Pearls and Darling Nikki. The guy was truly free as a songwriter πβοΈπΈ
