Duke Ellington - Caravan - Days of Wild / Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic / The Max

https://www.youtube.com/w...kLBSLxo5LE

listen to the first minute of this tune above ^

am I going slightly mad here or is that melody in Days of Wild lifted from Caravan?

and because of listening to Caravan, I'm also constantly humming the leadine from Rave
which made me realise it's just sped up on Rave.

eek

Similarity of the lead lines has been remarked upon previously e.g.:

theres a whole sub genre of american jazz artists working middle eastern (or west asian) and asian influences in general into their music (indian, chinese, japanese, and so on). prince must have been listening to this stuff.

It's no problem to discuss (just pointing out it's been spotted before over the years).

Remember seeing Prince at the Hammersmith Apollo during one of those NPGclub early let ins and Madame Butterfly was played during the set up, which I thought was very odd (would've prefered some unreleased stuff biggrin - but I can see now that Prince was listening to many kinds of musical genres and filtering it through his own purple lens of course.

Prince loved jazz music and sometimes incorporated some jazz standards snippets in his shows. I bet it was a tribute, not a rip off

(and the inclusion of Caravan is listed on several bootlegs)

This is discussed on the Violet podcast (excellent podcast about Prince in French):
