Originals Vol 2 or another SDE?

I’d take either right now. I feel like i never been this long with a Prince drought. They need to hurry up. Would’ve posted on the estate thread but it was expired.

Anything previously unreleased I'm up for.
They (re)mastered the video and audio of that Glam Slam Diamonds and Pearls show from January 11th 1992, why not just package that and release it so we get at least something?

It they worked on those recordings in the context of a D&P SDE, then I guess it's not very likely they will release them as a standalone project (?).

They anticipated fanbase fervency for Diamonds and Pearls superdeluxe to coalesce over months and months of watercooler hype until all estate and record label social media accounts would be hounded and eventually overtaken by zealous Prince fans demanding a release date.

Industry execs remain puzzled why no such event has occurred for Prince's biggest blockbuster of the 90s and therefore surely his most highly anticipated and prized SDE, especially when they have lead-single "Money Don't Matter 2Night (Original Tony M. Version)" all prepped to upload to Spotify, YouTube and press on Limited Edition Purple Vinyl, as well as a promotional music video for "Jughead (7 Minutes Mo' Tony M. Extended Remix)" set to some more Purple Rain Tour rehearsal footage already edited and ready for premiere on all official channels.

I second that.
I would rather they group ALL the songs he gave to others in there appropriate eras and as complete sets, for example like Prince's versions (or demos or whatever they can call them) for Vanity 6, The Time, What Time Is It? Apollonia6 etc. or select them by artist and release a double or triple CD boxset with all Prince's versions of Sheila E., The Time, Vanity 6/Apollonia 6 tracks.
The one offs (like With This Tear, I Don't Wanna Stop or The Dance Electric) could be on a boxset in chronological order of recording.
I would love to see that.

I am always thinking of this...the whole D&P SDE plan seems to have just gone away. Surely it is due to the changes in ownership and control happening with the estate. Yet, the Purple Rain Syracuse set came out.....so not sure what to think yet.

I do hope something is being quietly planned. I can't see how a 2nd Originals set would be terribly hard to release. I do hope that continues...maybe one offs that can't be part of a SDE release (e.g. So Strong by Dale Bozzio).

I have to think the ommision of any Mavis Staples or Jill Jones songs on the SOTT set is b/c there is a plan to release some of those gems (Come Home, Violet Blue etc). However, if the thought of a SDE is too much, why can't the Estate just put out a remastered Madhouse 8 album...or maybe a package Madhouse 8 & 16? Maybe, add Madhouse 24 and make it a package. Whatever, I do think there are people out there ready to buy remasters...one offs... Not every Prince album will get the SDE treatment. So, start with the one offs.

Many hardcores like me will never buy the re-releases of his albums as we have them already. If you remaster them, I'll buy all of them all over again. Many will. Once I realized The Time (Debut) was reamstered, I bought it right away off of HD Tracks. I would have bought a physical release in a heartbeat.

It would be better than nothing.

I think Originals was a good release I just wish they had stuck to a smaller time frame to make a more cohesive listening experience.

I would prefer however A SDE including his versions of songs.

Y'all are so impatient sometimes. Remember when we were about 200 songs down prior to the estate giving you a dozen albums worth of unreleased material? This isn't much of a drought, kids.

Depends on the SDE. If it's Diamonds & Pearls, I'd rather have another Originals (especially if "G-Spot" is on the next one). If it's something like Parade, I'll take the SDE.

Weird... I feel that the problem with Originals is that they again focused on just the Purple Rain era (or adjacent). The only exception, Love Thy Will Be Done, is immediately one of the most interesting tracks on the album.

.

Personally, I would keep releasing originals for all those tracks that are one-offs on albums with little Prince input and release deluxe versions of all protege albums with an extra disc of Prince versions of all the songs. (please do Time Waits For No One first!)

.

But it probably won't happen, as most of those involved would fight against it, I think, as it would contradict their stories of their involvement...

I didnt love the format of the Originals but I'd prefer that over an SDE of D&P.

I also want them to release all those original versions, and not just cherry pick hits and a few oddities. On of my favorite circulating demos was made for Patti Labelle. I couldn't have predicted that until hearing it. There's also a good chance there are gems that simply didn't survive the new vocals, and sounded better with Prince on them, so I'd like to hear what might be perceived as throwaway tracks.

One problem is there's no real curration for all these projects, it fluctuates between someone who thinks everything he did is golden (but then they don't release everything), and cherry picking hits and oddities (but not with any real sense of discriminating taste). It seems like they don't know what's good in the bigger sense of the word. Even if it's knowing what the 80's fans liked, what the 90's fans liked, what Prince revisited most often life, what he revisited a lot in the studio, what fans didn't connect with but might appreciate later, and so on.

Super deluxe whether parade or D&P would be great. Because you get a lot more music released. I still would like complete albums shelved by Prince released. The ones in the Mid 80’s and early 90’s.

SDE all the way. Could easily live without any more originals.

They're just waiting for the prices of oil/raw materials to rise on an international level,

so they can ask double of a normal price for a SDE.

Or waiting for the next year's crisis to blame.
