I think Originals is for the die hard fan. If the purpose is sales, an SDE is more interesting.

I'm not sure I agree here. Originals was designed to appeal to people who knew those songs, by and large, with a few deep cuts thrown in.

That album appeals to people who know the 1984 side project releases and their singles.

- Ok, you have a point. These are songs that people already know and love. But on the other hand, they already have them in the famous versions. So I wonder why a Kenny Rogers fan would be curious to buy the ´You´re my love´ version with Prince´s voice, for example.

And yes, a non fan wouldnt be curious for Prince outtakes too. But at least the SDE versions get lots of rave in the press, calling those albums ´Prince essential´, ´classics´, etc. Dont know if the non fan would buy an expensive version because of it, but at least this classical album gets in the spotlight.

? Seems like a far fetched reason.
As if whatever the Estate would announce is so mind blowing it will shadow over Queen Elizabeth's death.
