Where are all the new multi instrumentalists like Prince? Was thinking today that there's a real lack of super talented, all singing, all dancing, multi instrumentalists who write their own material too these days in the Prince mould. Why is that????? I guess Bruno Mars is probably the closest but are there any others? It seems it's kinda gone out of Vogue these days. We obviously had D'angelo and Lenny but any other current singers to recommend? It seems like there's just an abundance of singer's doing The Weeknd style edm but where have all the dynamic performers gone who really rock a show?

Classes on playing musical instruments used to be offered and taught in most public shools...that is unfortunately no longer the case...also, people are now making music electronically more than ever, so the need for guitars, strings, live drums, woodwinds, and percussions has been severely minimized...those sounds can now be created electronically/digitally in a much more efficient and cost effective manner...usually doesnt sound as good, but this has been the trend commercially, since the 1980s

They are there, but they don't sell I guess (maybe only to the older "Jazz" crowds)

Not sure how many instruments this dude can play but Fantastic Negrito is super talented and his genres are all over the map on his latest album. Most of his other work is more blues, but he’s def doing his own thing.

It seems genuine superstars aren't encouraged or allowed to grow any more. There was a time when an artist would develop and grow over several albums before hitting the jackpot. These days it seems you have to be a vital sensation singing a cover and that's it. I guess those of us who grew up with Prince,Madonna,Bruce,Mj etc in our teens really had the best of it. I will definitely check out everyone's recommendations but would love to find someone who really encompasses pop/funk/electro whilst playing a mean guitar and bass too.

Jacob Collier is very impressive. Justin Lee Schultz too. But Jacob writes songs. Justin, as far as I know, is more of a Instagram guy. . Jacob Collier https://www.youtube.com/w...JR6XSSKi-g . Justin Lee Shultz . https://www.youtube.com/w...Hog4D0TdLc .

Its that the industry prefers artists who are more ordinary these days eg ed Sheeran Someone who ppl can relate to Not someone who exists on another planet That does not fly in this decade [Edited 7/12/22 14:38pm]

in theory but not everyone breaks through the industry still makes stars, eg dua lipa, camilla cabello etc etc but yeah, it is easier now it seems to develop a cult following under the radar and be able to tour etc etc

Still there is stuff of this 'totale aansteller' that I like. I don't care for what kind of person he is. Young and wild it seems, that's how I like 'm. That's how Prince was once too. He even did a very strange experimental album called ''Truck'', that I like quite a lot (most people hate it). Saw him live once, not that bad at all - has loads of stolen alures from many artists, but he breathes music too. He is music in his own way. In 2017 (April 21 to be exactly) he did a nice 20min+ tribute during a live show on the piano with only Prince songs. You can find it on the comon U-2be chanel. I don't think there's any shortage of talented multi-instrumentalists out there, they're just mostly relegated to the indie/underground scenes nowadays. Hell, that's probably how it has always been, even back when it was easier to "make it" in the music industry.

So he really is that kind of a prick then ? Did not know that. He actually is totally unknown here in Belgium. I only know him from a couple of songs on some radiostation. Well, whatever. Prince was more than often a prick too, right ? But true, the latter was waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy more talented than a million Jetts out there. Agree. Forgot to mention that Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen´s son, recorded all instruments on his latest album. As far as I know, he doesnt solo in these instruments, as Prince did, but he sounds like a band

Forgot to mention Louis Cole too. He plays drums, keys and bass very well. And sings. . BTW, I recommend his work with Knower and solo. Great artist.

Jack White is the only one I really see as coming close. He's an amazing musician, a really underrated and funky drummer. "I've Got You Surrounded (With My Love)" off his latest record is very prince-like to me, perhaps my favorite White track of all-time.

Harts (Darren Hart), an Indian multi instrumentalist from Australia, is worthy of mention...Prince even flew him to Paisley Park before he passed, and even said that Harts reminded him of a young version of himself...Jett Rebel isnt bad either, He's not as funky as Harts, but he's got some talent and showmanship to him.

. - Yeah! Knower is one of the best things in pop music right now. They sound fresh and they are true musicians. And Louis Cole is a creative force. . Here is a sample:
