I am most interested in what prince recorded on his own, without the NPG members.
Stuff like Thunder etc. It will be very interesting to hear what he was working on by
himself and what direction such an album might have taken.

Hoping there are many more tracks than what is known now (on princevault).

It's not that I don't like the NPG on tracks. For example Something Funky (THC) is a
track that is -maybe surprisingly- one of my most played tracks of last year lol

I just love it. Both versions that we have on boots.

So some more Prince + NPG tracks are most welcome but I'm truly looking forward
to seeing what might be in the vault, starting this period of tighter control of leaks,
that we know nothing about.

They are quite similar. On first glance they seem the same but when you pay attention
there are a few differences. I think on the first version it's mainly Elisa singing where
on the second version those bits are done by Rosie?

there should be an even earlier version though since princevault mentions that the song was updated in fall of 1990 to include tommy barbarella in the shout outs.

both (very similar) versions that we have now contain the "the t the o the m the m the y..." bit so
what we don't have is that initial version that was recorded before tommy joined the npg.

The Rio rehearsal version is funny when P belly laughs and says ‘he (Tony) said pick it up G’ and when Rosie sings her bit P screams ‘Rosie’ in the background
.
Interesting P re-used Tony’s ‘NPG in mass attack’ at the beginning of The Sacrifice Of Victor

Gotta admit, Something Funky blah blah is one of my least favorite Prince songs ever. He's barely on the song and I'm not that interested in his attempts at making house music. Like his attempts at other genres that he either inspired or was inspired by, he often was a bit too self aware for it to be genuine. That's where corny songs like this come from. I'm glad he left it off.

I would've hoped that Schoolyard would've been an album that looked like the solo efforts he was working on at the time like Player, Get Blue, I Wonder, Insatiable, Thieves in the Temple, Thunder, etc.

What I don't get with that Netflix deal, is that I highly doubt they offered the estate millions to do a series of 6 or 8 episodes,
If they did that, why wouldn't they chose Michael Jackson instead? More potential viewers.

In fact, logically, that would be instead the Prince estate that should pay all the cost for the documentary, then introducing it to Netflix or another tv channel, amd then let's see the value of the final product.

But let's admit that, that Netflix offered them millions without one minute shot, and the fact they forbidden them to use video until the actual release of the show (2024?) that wasn't even officially announced, with no director, no hints in the wings, no communication at all.

Why would that contract prevent the estate to release audio material ( ie Originals 2, Camille, A For You SDE, or Prince last studio recordings, etc?)

That makes absolutely no sense at all.

I think what prevent the estate to release something has nothing to do with the Netflix deal, if it really exists.
I think there's just legal troubles between WB who owns the Vault until 1995, Sony who has distribution rights, amd the estate whom nothing is syre about who's still in charge.

Labels work together all the time, I doubt if label squabbles will hold anything up. They want the music out (and more importantly, your $$$). Diamonds and Pearls SDE WILL be released before the year is over, and it's gonna be GREAT!

Ok.
So why did they wait almost two years before releasing it?
If there's no problem between the estate, WB, Sony... Fine.

So why were they obliged to re-re-release Syracuse instead of D&P SDE?

D&P SDE is a lot more complicated release than Syracuse. As I've explained before, there's A LOT of vinyl involved in these releases, a lot of vault product being sifted through and cleaned up for release. Packaging and package design (books, outer cardboard sleeve, possibly a hologram). It takes an army to put this stuff together, with a lot of production being done overseas (vinyl pressing, book printing). Because of the pandemic things have backlogged, containers are slow getting here, you name it. Just saying, it makes more sense that there are production delays than a squabble between WB and Sony over release rights. Especially since Sony printed and pressed the D&P/NC2U single given out at PP (vault material). It's also peculiar that there hasn't been a single disc re-issue of Diamonds and Pearls or the "Love Symbol" album. D&P was his second best selling album of his career.

Don’t think anything Prince twitter puts out should be taken as a sign for something coming out. Last 4 tweets cover: 20Ten, D&P, NC2U (Prince 1984 ‘version’ released in 2018), Call My Name/ Musicology.
There may or may not be something coming!

You mean the album version? It stems from "Glam Slam 91" in a way (everybody grab a body), but then morphs beyond that. "Love Machine" is there, too. I wonder where any of these songs should land.

But the 10 minute mix could be a good lead single. I do hope they add the ballet version of "Thunder" to the set. Seems criminal to not include that, as well as all the other early, hybrid and remix versions.

Yes "Glam Slam 91" it shares about 1/3 of the lyrics with GETT OFF. (also some elemets from "Escape" and the opening line is close to "Rebirth of the Flesh"

Yeah, it's a serious mash-up, but the rub is that some of those songs didn't exist yet. It was a real precursor to him taking his songs, dissecting them and making new songs from those elements (like "New Power Generation," "Gett Off," "Cream").

However, in the scheme of promoting something like D&P SDE, it doesn't seem like a good idea, actually, as a lead single. The general public doesn't know "Gett Off" enough to connect the dots. And they sure as fuck don't know shit about "Glam Slam" - in music, club or whatever.

I would imagine it's more going to be a demo or early version of something like "Cream" or "Diamonds and Pearls."

At the end of this week it will be one year since the last vault release.

With nothing looking like being released until the end of the first quarter of next year, so at the earliest April 2023 this could be longest drought we have ever had to endure. This comes at a time when really we should be getting more releases than ever before.

At this rate 1 release ever two years most of us are going to miss out on the majority of the vault treasures.

From Princevault....

Joyful Sound is an unreleased track recorded in late 1990 at either Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota or Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California. The track is made up of Tony M. delivering a spoken word segment over a drum instrumental by Michael B. that was previously used as an intro of Willing And Able. The musical backdrop of the track also contains some menacing sound effects. The track was included as the fourth track on a Spring 1991 configuration of Diamonds And Pearls, but was removed as the album went through further changes.

Sounds more like a stand alone track that has a "Sample" from Willing & Able to me
