A Purple Rain SDE would logically appear in 2024, the 40th anniversary of its release. But, as we know, they don't always release on logical "birthdays". Born days. Whatever.

It may be the 40th anniversary of "1999" but that one's already been issued.

I wouldn't expect exciting news anytime soon. The estate seems content with milking re-releases and color variants of previously released albums, and most fans seem content with buying them all. It'd be nice to have Originals 2, or an SDE announcement over a marginally better looking version of an okay concert recording they already released in 2017, but whatever.

So what do you expect would motivate the other sorts of releases? What are the fans not doing to hold up their end of the bargain (ie purchasing shit)? Are you suggesting the fans are not complaining enough? In the right channels? Can we get a clear directive here so that the fans stop dropping the ball so hard?

I totally agree.I just can’t get excited about the release of a concert recording that we already have….even if the picture quality is improved.I want another SDE,filled with bonus and previously unreleased tracks!

Still waiting for the as yet to be unearthed, nevermind released, pre '75 recordings. They still every once in a while dig up from some well or such place a long lost, forgotten Bach manuscript. So why not.

Weren't some of P's old recordings kept in his father's old home - since razed to the ground - but then moved on to the vault at Paisley?

We are very spoiled really. I share the pain of "I WANT MORE MUSIC NOW", but there aren't many artists that created fully formed songs and stuck them in a vault. I have a heavy suspcion that they're prepping an online subscription model where we'll get our unreleased music from.

On a side note, has Chris Moon ever given any indication of the meerest possibility of thinking about releasing his pre-Warners stuff?

I refuse to spent any money on this Syracuse concert cuz I don't think there would be any problem for the estate to release another unreleased album or Originals 2 while we're waiting for the next SDE. I also think Dortmund 1988 would've been a better choice than Syracuse even if we already have it.

Or First Avenue 83, or Capitol Theatre 82, og the very last concert in Atlanta 2016 which we know he recorded to release. There are so many more exciting concerts to release...

I never understood this thinking - why is "40" logical? None of the other special editions came out on a 40th anniversary.

Well, we didn't really officially have any 40th anniversaries until 2018, and they didn't pull the trigger that year or any of the following years. 1999 SDE was early, as was SOTT SDE. At this point, it would make since to do 40th anniversaries for everything from Purple Rain onwards. It's a big number, and I don't know where I'll be at the 50 mark. wink

I don't know if I can agree. If they had kept on the trajectory of 2019-2020 when we were getting stuff like Originals and a SDE each year, then yeah, it would be silly to complain, but they have certainly fell off in the last few years. If anything, it's ridiculous that the estate is still fucking around like they are when it has been several years since Prince passed and they have no shortage of unreleased material to pick from, but it is what it is.

I agree. I think they took a bath on the W2A SDEs and now they're taking a step waaaay back from the manufacturing model - they want all gravy, and minimal cost.

It's a shame that the estate keeps ignoring P&M 2016. It was obvious that they have not interest at all in this album when they instead chose to release P&M 1983 in 2018.

Hey don't be mad at me if you didn't get a t-shirt.
That might have been the best part of the entire project but I disagree about the website. Show me another website today or before it similar to it. Didn't it have purple lobster or something like that? I definitely remember something about space and jellyfish.

If you don't like the cover of crimson and clover I'm curious what original version you have heard.

Anyway I can't go back and listen to it because I don't have my CDs or a player right now.

I got the impression that the MPLS sound album was sort of like redundant if you know anything about the MPLS sound. It's a stretch to try and cover something that should always be unleashed.

Indeed - although I love the P&M 1983 album. But the Atlanta P&M concert and the P&M 1983 recording would have made a beautiful combined release.

I just think why abbreviate anything? It took me a day to figure out what P&M was and you don't wanna know what I was coming up with.

Coupling the live Atlana CD with a Paisley Gala DVD seems like the most obvious choice in the world. Why the estate hasn't done it yet is baffling.

It should be obvious. That release is a guaranteed major release that they can pull out at a later date to massive fanfare. But there's tons of other stuff to go through before they have to do that.

I would really like another album of Prince versions of songs that he gave to other people. I would love to hear some of his versions of the songs on Bria Valente`s Album,or Superconducter or back in time. I rate this material very highly and feel that it is still not much on peoples radar.

I think you should phrase your inquiry with "Intel" instead of "info" next time but what do I know?

I think there would be more urgency if people were giving details about how they would do it if it was their job.

While it's not my job, it doesn't prevent me from coming up with my own ideas for a project. For example, the obvious choice for a super deluxe project would be anything with similar components. So any songs where the piano and microphone is are prominent, there.
It's not that hard. We think there's already two releases but the potential for spotlight projects is limitless really.

Respectfully Submitted,
Alyssa J.

Susan Rogers began curating "the vault" before Prince moved to Galpin -- so yes, I'm sure the really-old stuff has been preserved.
