Or First Avenue 83, or Capitol Theatre 82, og the very last concert in Atlanta 2016 which we know he recorded to release. There are so many more exciting concerts to release...

It's a shame that the estate keeps ignoring P&M 2016. It was obvious that they have not interest at all in this album when they instead chose to release P&M 1983 in 2018.

I wonder if they are thinking that he lookedhis best, which is why every shoot of those concerts was done from a distance with a blurring kaleidoscopic background instead of an up-close big-screen?

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

There is a problem with the 2016 Atlanta show. If memory serves, he says ‘I don’t need no Doctor’ when performing a Revolution number solo.

However, given he was in hospital hours afterwards and fatally would not listen to a doctor, the line would now haunt the whole set.

I doubt there will be a major release like this, I feel they are keeping it with the Live Concert issue, and also the Gold Experience issue and its presence RSD, i talked to a few store owners and they say this is probably going to be their biggest seller for this year for sure and maybe the last few years. Maybe something will be prepared for the end of the year, maybe something again for RSD there is still the whole Camille thing. I feel as it was mentioned the PR is going to happen, for either 2023 or 2024 the reason I mention 2023 is its the 40th anniversary of that First Avenue Concert and I could easily see that being the attachment to a PR SDE. As for the future of releases I do think (though it wont happen) the estate should go the route of what Springsteen does, he has these live shows come out, you can buy it stream it etc.. I think this is a way down the line to put out demos or things that maybe so you dont have to foot the bill with a whole big package. I know people are talking about the W2A not being a big thing BUT lets be real, why would you think this was going to be some kind of huge seller? It sold week one and two and a little here and there and then was gone, I mean the artist is deceased so promotion can only go so far.

It's possible that the estate no longer thinks that there's enough demand for a D&P SDE because of all the negative comments so they choose to milk the Syracuse concert this year instead which is really a shame. But I think we will at least get Parade SDE next year and PR SDE in 2024.

At this point, I've stopped expecting more stuff, more frequently. I'm happy with the "1999" and "SOTT" SDEs. W2A was cool as well. They're all far from perfect, but that's what we're going to get. I couldn't care less about the Syracuse 1985 release, but at least they're releasing something. I guess. At some point, we'll get something exciting. We just need to be patient. In the meantime, there's everything Prince has already released. And the bootlegs. And other artists. And everything else that makes life worthwhile. You know, family, friends, pets, nature, books, movies, TV shows, good food, and many, many other things. biggrin

We also have to understand the overall impact of these albums. I get we want SDE but we are not going to get them for every album he had, its just not going to happen because it will be a production loss of $$. As the years get further away from his passing the less commercial appeal its going to have outside of the very very loyal fans, I know we dont like to think of this day when there just isnt going to be releases but it may be coming on. I do think PARADE will happen, and PR for sure and maybe they can someone tie PR in with getting protege stuff out there in some way, because honestly I think there is some demand for TIME, Vanity 6, Jill Jones, The Family just as much as even some of his albums

You're dreaming if you think they can't release an SDE for every album and make a killing. The music is already done. SDEs can take a variety of forms.

Things are slow because of complex litigation and the world at large.

Things are actually not slow when compared to other artists who have passed, I mean the fact that we get numerous releases a year whether WE like what the release is, is our problem, not the problem of the estate the label putting it out or whatever. True you can release any of these records in SDE form but again the process to put this together you are guessing that everything is in pristine form and ready to go and just needs to be mastered, I have tons of bootlegs from the days of collecting and there is a lot of crap in there, bad sound, bad recordings, so PRINCE may have recorded these things and filmed numerous concerts etc...the question is what do they want to put out there and what is in releaseable quality.

I heard a rumor that they were waiting for the Netflix series to release another Super Deluxe.

Any truth with this?

My understanding (via Dr. Funkenberry) is that Netflix have a 'first look' clause for any performance material for their documentary. Since that was delayed due to COVID it's thrown a spanner into the works for the big Super Deluxe box sets, since The Estate usually like to include an unreleased concert DVD/Blu in these. This may explain why we're getting LIVE! since this is previously released footage.

I've also wondered if there's some logistical wrinkles related to the distribution arrangements that changed this year?

e.g. When we were originally expecting the Diamonds & Pearls SDE last year this would all have been through Warners so no problems. However, now my understanding is that it would be a co-distribution between SONY (US) and Warners (Rest of World). However, whilst the SONY deal unambiguously covers the main album it's never been clear to me what the situation is with previously unrelased 'vault' material. The SONY deal never mentioned it and I've seen it reported that Warners believes it to be theirs since it was recorded under the old Warners contract. Perhaps this is having to be worked out behind the scenes, contributing to the apparent delay?

What are the numerous releases per year? Last year we got one release: W2A. The year before we got one release: SOT SDE. This year we may only get one: The Purple Rain concert.

i'm excited as hell for any release. I wasn't excited about this new Syracuse show but the Estate has put work into it....the video simply looks better so the effort is there, despite the poor source quality. If the 2011 LA Blu Ray is any indication, the sound is going to be amazing.

So far, the Estate has done amazing work...the two SDEs have been stellar. The man gift wrapped all of this but it still takes time to configure a set. I think the Estate has to do something this year in terms of an SDE ....but honestly, they have done a FINE job thus far.

All the Sony issues and vinyl pressings, the RSD releases, One Night Alone, issued seperately, all these things count as releases, I mean I know we all may have them but, basically all his albums are no longer in print, his WB releases in the era of his SLAVE on the face are not in print anymore and hadnt been. All the stuff that has come out since his death like it or not, it counts, we cant always think we are going to get a vault of tracks numerous times a year, its not going to happen

I think part of the reason why some are getting impatient is that Howe said in an interview that 2 vault releases per year was a reasonable and likely release schedule. He couldn't confirm that due to his NDA, but he certainly implied it.

I think its just very difficult to work through when so many different issues are involved, more than one label doing it complicates everything. I mean having mulitple deals, dealing with an estate too, and then just the process of going through all he had stored up, and what condition, is it releasable, are we doing him a disservice by putting out lackluster stuff, I think all this in play here.

And we still don't know who has access to what material between Warners and Sony?! though there seems to be some informal agreement they don't release archive stuff concurrently.

When I first read this, I thought his doctor comment was a comment that wasn't part of the show to his crew or somebody backstage about his state.

But now I've found the bit and while I agree that it obviously is a bit eerie knowing what happened a week later, I don't think it's reason to not release the show. The line comes a couple of times during a fictitious conversation between Prince and Dr. Fink in Baby, I'm a Star. It can be heard after 24 minutes and 35 seconds here: https://www.youtube.com/w...cK5MH668CQ

It was also discussed earlier here: https://prince.org/msg/7/423911

Anyway, I'd love to have that show released in good quality. There are some amazing highlights, and for obvious reasons it's a historic concert.

Duane Tudahl all but confirmed he's working on a Lovesexy era sessions book. Given that the previous two were more or less tied in with releases from the same period, maybe that's our next SDE?

That would be great, as Lovesexy is one of my favorite albums, but this would also contradict all the rumours about the Estate releasing a Parade or D&P SDE next. Also, if Duane's working on a book covering the Lovesexy period now, it probably means that such a book won't be published for another year or two at least.

Makes sense. Let's have a Parade (and ATWIAD?) SDE in the meantime.

I don't believe Duane's books and the Estate's releases were in any way in sync. I'm positive they were not. Had they been, his 2nd book would have come out when SOTT SDE came out...much better in sync. For book 1, he wasn't even part of the estate's group of contributors.

Anyway, it's hard to complain considering how awesome the SDE releases have been thus far but I really hope they are able to get something out this year...like another SDE. Just from a sonic stand point, ARTWIAD badly requires a remaster.
