90s House Prince (Loose, The Human Body, Sleep Around) I just discovered these songs (Loose, The Human Body, Sleep Around) and I am amazed by 90s House Prince. Are there any other songs – possibly unreleased – from this period that feature a similar sound?

They have some house/techno remixes. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

The original version of Come ("this is the dawning of a new spiritual revolution") would probably fit this mold. Also check out the William Orbit remix of The Future from Batman.

New World from Emancipation and Get Loose from Crystal Ball. Personally I lump Joint to Join in this group too. Older songs sort of in this vein include Erotic City (and remix) and Purple Music. P Control Remix on Crystal Ball might be worth checking out too. Original P Control is also really cool.

Eye Wanna Melt With U from the Symbol album, methinks is kind of house/techno.

[Edited 5/18/22 15:56pm] I’d also say Lemon Crush has a bit of a house style too. 'My Name Is Prince' house-ish (shitty) remixes 'Gett Off' house (shitty) mixes Better ones are 'The Future' & 'Electric Chair' mixes by Mark Moore there's even an early 'Hot Thing' house-ish mix. Then there are many house-like remixes by protegees, songs written by Prince or with his involvement; some (awful) Carmen Electra remixes to be found amongst the maxi CD versions of; 'Go Go Dancer', 'Fantasia Erotica', 'Everybody Get On Up', and 'Fun'. 'Melody Cool' by Mavis Staples, Deep House Vocal Mix, Mellow Dub Mix, etc, some 'Round and Round' mixes by Teven Campbell, some The Time's 'Shake' Funky House Mix, amongst others, a few Mica Paris' 'iF i lOVE u 2nite' remixes by Nellee Hooper, (the worse;) TC Ellis house mixes by Jr. Vazques of the song 'Miss Thang', (quite enjoyable) Ingrid Chavez's 'Elephant Box', and 'Hippy Blood' and 'Heaven must be near', house mixes, and so much more. Also often hip-hop mixes of same songs have more of a house feel than a hip hop feel. So much (rubbish) to find halfway the nineties by what he did for his protegees.

Prince could do a lot of music styles...but house isn't one of them. I've never heard any good house song by him. You can not honstely say the human body is a good house song? Sleep around isn't even house.

Exactly. I too believe he could not do house. I never listened to any remix house track again ever a first listen. Just ot Prince. It was more a Prince who tried to fit in. At some point I even left Prince aside for a while. He always threw in some funky things, which was his trademark, but nothing to do with House music. Far from. At least imho.

Does the remix of "fix ur life up" count as house music?

thanks everyone for contribuiting! I am making a FIRE playlist with these tracks!
(and to the other people bringing nothing but limitations and restrictions to the table, sometimes i wonder how a free-spirit such as Prince was able to attract such narrow-minded individuals – "if you set your mind free, baby, maybe you will understand...")

I'm not sure if I remember hearing of that, but can say I was definitely dreaming of a techno or electro-centric release. Then he went all "real band music," lol. Cast the dream to the wind!

It looks like he cancelled that idea and just simply placed a few of those songs on Emancipation. It’s interesting to think of what a Prince techno album would be like.
Reply w/quote - E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Well, he gets sampled sometimes. Closest we're gonna get, beyond some of his singles remixes, unless there's a special score of trax waiting among vault holdings! [Edited 5/22/22 22:35pm]

Not quite sure. I thought that Mayte back in the day said in some interview that Prince was recording a (new) Techno album. While she was mistaken as this was a worktitle for the upcoming new Emancipation album... Maybe there was a techono or house album recorded, I don't know for sure.

It has nothing to do with a free spirit, not everything prince recorded was good. House is a music style with a lot of great artists. Prince tried that style (talking about a free spirit lol) but couldn't do it. I really believe he made an impact on house in the early 80s,but house is just not his thing. I think he saw this too because he would go a different style late 90s when house was at its peak. But you go and enjoy!

Agree. Techno isn't house. A funky remix isn't house. Not one song listed in this thread is house. Rosie's vamp part on Gett Off (House Style) comes close and the remix of Closer Than Close does too but I don't think Prince had anything to do with that.

Just read this Q & A article in Billboard with Felix Da Housecat. https://www.billboard.com...87610/amp/ Q: If you had to recommend one album for someone looking to get into dance/electronic music, what would you give them? “[stuff about Radiohead]…And then anything by Prince before Purple Rain. Like Dirty Mind, Controversy. Because you can find elements with guitars and lyrics, you can still get inspired, it doesn’t have to be electronic; it can be the energy and vibe that comes out.”
