desperately seeking Susan vs purple rain vs moonwalker

Apart from the live performances in PR which are smoking, and a few memorable scenes (eg lake minnetonka), as a film, I'd have to say DSS is the better film, as far as screen debuts from these two go. Moon Walker too actually.
And yet PR seems the most iconic somehow
Do fans think PR is good? Cos I'd say the only truly great film prince made was SOTT.

My favorite Prince film is Under the Cherry Moon, I don't consider Sign O the Times a movie so much as a stylized concert. I think Desperately Seeking Susan is watchable with some good actors and probably Madonna's most charismatic film performance. That being said, it is not a great movie, and I enjoy Purple Rain a lot more. Purple Rain has engaging music and lively characters. The plot is thin but it does its part. I find Clarence William III's performance powerful and haiunting. Billy Sparks, Morris and Jerome are hilarious. Moon Walker has some good musci videos inserted into the film, even when it first came out, I foulnd the plot contrived and I am not a fan of the stop motion animation that is used in this film. So IMHO Purple Rain easily beats both these movies. Like everybody else I am biased.

Is there really a plot to Moonwalker? I honestly never noticed until the Another Part of Me bit.

It's mostly a collection of music videos until maybe the last 30 minutes.
I think there a little plot with MJ trying to stop a villain played by Joe Peshi from using/spreading drugs. Then MJ turns into a robot then turns into a car...
I enjoyed it but it doesn't compare to purple rain or even Under the cherry moon

Desperately seeking Susan was good too but I think I only saw it once.My favorite Madonna film is "Body of evidence" even though it's a basic instinct ripoff

But Purple Rains wins

You mean "Smooth Criminal?"

These three movies aren't comparable for me, especially Moonwalker. It's a longform music video. Purple Rain is a musical, and Desperately Seeking Susan is a half-drama/half-comedy romp.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think Purple Rain is the best movie that Prince made.SOTT is a very good concert film.

The other two Prince movies are probably best-forgotten smile

Discounting the musical performances, the first hour of Purple Rain is horrible. However the drama ramps up towards the end, and just about saves it.

Always loved Cherry Moon for all its flaws. Graffitti Bridge is one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Moonwalker is more akin to the Three Chains of Gold video. A series of music videos vaguely linked together.

‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ is an okay movie but I actually prefer ‘Who’s That Girl’,which is really funny and enjoyable.

It’s interesting that Michael never made any movies after ‘The Wiz’.I don’t really consider ‘Moonwalker’ to be a real movie. It’s more like a long form music video.Throughout the 80s,I often heard about him being connected to one movie project or another (one such project was called ‘MidKnight’) but it never happened.

Purple Rain, but I'm bias. Haven't seen Desperately Seeking Susan in many years, but I enjoyed it when I saw it but didn't see it 19 times in a month so there's that. Same with Moonwalk, it's been a long time and I didn't obssess about it when I did. But I'm one of the ones the prefers Under The Cherry Moon and have watched that consistently over all these years.
