Love4oneAnother @ Paisley Park summer-winter 1995

Did anyone attend? I love these shows, please post your reviews, experiences and what not from the summer-winter period of 1995.

Only thing I found on the internet regarding specific shows is this one:

http://www.echoes.com/greymatter/archives/00000364.html

Prince: Chanhassen MN Paisley Park 8/26/1995

The show was Tha Bomm! We waited outside for about 2 hours before we got in. Got inside went right up to the front of the stage a waited for three hours. Basically, we were on the left side, about 5-10 feet away from his mike and I was 1 foot away from his monitor. The stage was about 2 feet high so we were in a perfect place. Mr. Hayes was about 3 feet away from me, and ChickenMan was about 15 feet away (towards the back).

He came out and played guitar from behind the screen that was still showing videos. Sounded like Sometimes It Snows In April. Just noodling around for a couple of minutes and then HE PLAYED IT! I just about died. Sadly he played 7 and Dolphin. Killer Peach for a long long time. Played *all* of Bambi! Did this amazing version of Race where he and tommy just jumped around playing their Axxes. Then he started play the keyboard riff from Girls And Boys (like he did at the Berlin show last November). He went up to the mic and sung a verse and chorus. It was the shit!

Then they just kept playing around. Oh, right before he did 7 which was like the 4th song, during the intro the keyboard intro to Around The World In A Day was played. When he did Girls And Boys I was starting to think that it was going to be a Parade tour like show. Not too many complete songs.... The last 40 minutes just jammed. Started to do I Hate U and went right into 319 that broke down into Superhero. Did most of BJB. No Pussy Control. Did a cool version of Dark (in the...). Played the small eye bass for Days Of Wild which ended the set, but even that broke down to a song that no one knew.

Prince: Chanhassen MN Paisley Park 9/9/1995
People who had tickets were let in first, relatively early at 9.15. We walked right up to the front and we directly in front of his mike. Only one person separated me from the stage.

Suprisingly enough the gig started at 11.45.

He started with the Purple Medley, and with that there was a huge surge and all hell broke loose. My legs are sore this morning from trying to stand my ground. Many chicks were all over me, and not necessarily in a good way. The Kids like the Purple Medley.

The high light of the night was Pussy Control LIVE! As soon as it started I was shouting and one of the large (did I say large) black ladies said That's my song! Ok. It rocked. Even funkier! We were all doing the chorus.

Went from Pussy Control into Letitgo and did all of it. He was in a great mood. Having lots of fun. I was close enough too >see that his cuticles are in much better shape than mine. Caught eye contact with him a few times. End with Get Wild about 1.15, no encore.

Prince: Chanhassen MN Paisley Park 10/28/1995
I'm not really sure... and I was there. They did crowd shots for about 20-30 minutes... a comedian did a routine and then Nona Gaye did a song from the Marvin Gaye tribute album. Prince came out and did The Return Of The Bump Squad, The Jam, The Ride and Bambi. End of show. It was scarey the number of people I recognized. We got there about 10.30 and walked right in and even got a good spot... about 10-12 feet away from the stage. It was really cool to see all the cameras and stuff. On one side of the soundstage they roped it off and had about 20 guitars hang in the air... looked like a cool piece of art!

I went to every one of those shows. 17 in total.

Of the shows that were mentioned, the one on 10/28 was filmed for the Love 4 One Another VH1 special. The guitars that were hanging was for the I Like It There video shoot. The other show that was filmed for the same special was on 10/8.

Another show that was filmed was on 12/9. If they ever do a super deluxe Gold Experience, I hope that show is the one they include for DVD/Blu-Ray. Excellent set list for the time. They gave us a cassette of Slave/New World that night as a gift.

Of the run, I remember there were a couple nights where he did the Tora Tora thing and performed Exodus material. The weekend that he was supposed to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (opening I think it was), he gave a really long speech (which was really rare) about not wanting to go and wanting to stay in Minneapolis with us instead.

All of the shows rarely had any hits and were mainly the Gold Experience and Exodus material. People usually came in and hovered around the stage for hours until Prince came out to play. They would have a DJ and people rarely danced. Really annoying! I remember one night he came out and he was standing behind the crowd by the soundbard and started the show. Everyone up front was looking around like, where's he at? lol You can find all the set lists on Prince Vault. I don't remember which night it was, but he played the Undertaker one night and I was thrilled because I just love that song. Great times!!!

Thanks for the details! Remember which of those shows he started playing from the soundboard?

Funny, I never thought too much of the last show from December 95 as worthy of release (although I like the DOW rendition better from bootleg that with the added overdubs of the released version on Crystal Ball).

Days of Wild from 5th August show is still the best ever IMO (then edited down for release on the Love4OneAnother special).

All these shows (apart from Aug 19th and October 22nd) are available on bootlegs and sound quality varies a lot. You can hear exactly when Rock N Roll Is Alive was born (9 September 95) as a chant during the extended bass-heavy Get Wild. I see RNR Is Alive listed as last track on the show on October 22nd, which is not circulating. I wonder if they played the entire track live, or if it was again just a chant, do you remember anything in regards?

Great jamming, unpredictale setlists, top band.

He started playing from the soundboard at the 11/11 show.

There were 2 shows professionally filmed, 8/19 and 12/9. I just think 12/9 has a better set list and it was a longer show. I would take either, though.

Days of Wild was filmed on 10/7 for the L4OA VH1 special.

I don't recall if RNR Is Alive was just the chant or the full song at the 10/22 show. Probably was the full song by then, but not 100% sure.

He brought out the yes neon light and it was hanging in the soundstage. The big flowers from the Lovesexy show were brought out too. The tall pieces of the Endorphinemachine stage were set up too. All of the shows were done in the soundstage. Mayte handed me a prince tambourine at one of the shows, but I don't remember which one. In 96 he started playing some shows in the L4OA/NPGMC room.

Funny you mentioned Get Wild and it reminded me of how much it and Race started to wear on my nerves after awhile. He played those very frequently and always long versions. Good time for a bathroom break! He definitely spoiled us that year. It was almost a year, 10/25/96, until he played Paisley Park again with a new band, besides Morris.
