Another Camille test pressing up for auction

https://www.rrauction.com...-pressing/

.

Excessively rare advance pressing of Camille, Prince's unreleased 1986 album. The mint-condition disc has Paisley Park labels with track listings of "Rebirth of the Flesh," "Housequake," "Strange Relationship," and "Feel U Up" on side one, and "Shockadelica," "Good Love," "If I Was Your Girlfriend," and "Rockhard in a Funky Place" on side two. Etched into the 'dead wax' matrix area are the numbers, "1-25543-A-SH1, B-26287-SH1, 15191" on side one, and "1-25543-B-SH1, B-26288-SH1, 15191-X" on side two. Includes the original unmarked paper and cardboard sleeves, with a "Sound Stage 87 VIP" pass affixed to the sleeve. In very fine condition.

This advance pressing shows just how close to release Camille came before Prince pulled the project—the label artwork had been finalized and advance pressings had been distributed to some in-house executives. It remains unclear exactly how many copies of this Camille pressing exist, but it is estimated that there may be as few as 25. The Camille advance pressing was essentially unknown to the Prince community until one surfaced in a lot from the Prince collection of Karen Krattinger, which we sold in September 2016—this is now the third example we have handled. A tremendously sought-after album of the utmost significance.

What an amazing item. The Black Album promo cassette tape is really nice too. Some of the prices seem rather ambitious though, for example the tour books.

This wasn't from Purple Rain? Right?

I remember buying one online from NPGstore.

It was disappointing because it looked cheap and had a sticker slapped on it.

These have been popping up as Purple Rain tour tambourines and apparently are what they threw into the audience. Prince also used spray painted onces that are lighter, and raw wood on the insider, and there are photos that look like he also was using them unpainted too.

Weren't the NPG/Glam Slam era ones with a symbol instead?

No.

They were owned by Prince.

At some point in the late 90s he asked fans to send him their bootlegs. He was also seen at record stores looking for bootlegs.

So presumably these test pressings would be mixed / mastered evenly across the whole album, right? It's tough trying to re-create the Camille album from the released tracks as they're all mastered differently depending on what release they came from - i.e. different volumes, equalizations, etc. It always sounds a bit stitched-together and not smooth like a properly mastered album would.

Camille was a brilliant concept and album - this is one piece of memorabilia I would LOVE to own. Be amazing to hear this album as sequenced, mastered and finished by Prince. The Music on it is incredible and the concept is really progressive (for the time) and really interesting. Prince at his ultimate best.

NO THEY WERE NOT OWNED BY PRINCE.

.

These are, like some of the other items in this auction, obviously owned BY A FAN (and in some of the other items this is also said).

The history of the Cloud and it's replicas/copies is listed somewhere but I can't find it. These 12 were not handmade by Dave Rusan but another luthier who worked under him, if I understand the description. So while that might not be a direct Rusan cloud, it's as close as most people would get unless they had $10k on hand for a commission.

Released yes, but on various discs and one single release would 'fix' this.

To reassemble this album, you will need:

-Sign o’ the Times Super Deluxe (For “Rebirth of the Flesh”, “Housequake”, “If I Was Your Girlfriend”, “Strange Relationship”, and “Shockadelica”

-The “Partyman” 12’ Single (For “Feel U Up”)

-The “Bright Lights, Big City” Soundtrack (For “Good Love”)

-The Black Album (For “Rockhard in a Funky Place”)

Three of these are not easily available (the latter three) or are expensive to own (SOTTSD, Black Album), and two of these (“Partyman” single and “The Black Album”) are not on streaming sites. So assembling this album is quite difficult.

Plus the mixes are wrong for Rebirth and Housequake. At least.

True. And the version of “If I Was Your Girlfriend” on Camille doesn’t include the “Wedding March” intro as well.

That version is on hits 2. Feel U Up is on hits 3, all streaming.

The rest is on YouTube. It's not "quite difficult" to assemble.

Given the little "mistakes" (swirl, knob positions and guutar strap pin on the back of the guitar) this isn't a original one.
The description says it was made by someone else in mpls for Prince's associates

None of the 'Rebirth of the Flesh' versions on the 3 different 'Camille' presings/sequences have been released officially so it's not possible to make any of these sequences ourselves. And the mixes of the tracks on all three versuons of the album are different and the some or most tracks have different edits that are also still not released.
They should just press this album on an vinyl and CD for RSD or whatever so we can finally have it.
