Am I nuts for thinking a When Doves Cry SDE would be really f***ing cool?

It was a landmark for him and why not celebate that over a (sometimes exhausting) album SDE?

Has a SDE for a single every been done? And if not = why not for the best song ever made?

Plus, it would be a LOT less expensive!

there might be some interest in something like this with a few songs. A 12" with several mixes on it.... WDC would be one as it is known to have many more unused elements on the MTM... (much more than just a bass line)

I would LOVE to have the isolated tracks: to just listen to the drums alone or those vocals, my god!

That is VERY disrespectful! I totally identified with BrownMark's book "My Life in thr Purple Kingdom". He also did an excellent job fronting The Revolution with his charisma & showmanship on their last tour(whom I attended several dates).

Super Deluxe EPs of his biggest hits would actually be pretty cool. The original WDC re-remastered (which could be used for the inevitable updated SDE of 'Purple Rain') with the single edit, the bass mix, the longer vault mix (unless they want to save that for the aforementioned updated SDE), a previously unreleased live version, and the original and unreleased extended versions of "17 Days".

They could do similar EPs with "Kiss", "Let's Go Crazy", "1999", etc. It would be something fun they could issue between bigger projects and might drum up a little interest from the non-hardcore public, given that these are his most well-known songs.

I just want to hear the original studio version

It's likely identical to the one played on the Purple Rain tour. It's also completely lame and I understand 100% why he left it off.

I would be all for hearing a version with all the extra guitars and synths as Susan Rogers described. I dounbt the bass is any cooler than the live versions.

When "WHen Doves Cry" was released to radio in April 1984 I literally LOST my mind! I was SO proud of him.

Imagine a Deluxe "Kiss" EP with the remastered album version, the single edit (which is actually longer, with the guitar outro), the 12" mix, the original acoustic demo, any alternate mixes in the vault, the 7" and 12" versions of "Love Or $", and the unreleased "Love Or $" in his regular voice. Plus some unreleased live versions. That would be a cool vinyl collectible and nice addition to streaming services!
