Plus the mixes are wrong for Rebirth and Housequake. At least.

True. And the version of “If I Was Your Girlfriend” on Camille doesn’t include the “Wedding March” intro as well.

That version is on hits 2. Feel U Up is on hits 3, all streaming.

The rest is on YouTube. It's not "quite difficult" to assemble.

Uhh except it is quite difficult or else whatever you have cobbled together sounds like shit and is a bad facsimile of a real and tangible album. The edits and mixes aren't the same. What's hard to understand about that?

Sounds like Howe when he justified glaring omissions from the SOTT SDE referring to released examples of songs as if those would sound right next to a brand new mix. Oh ok.

I always liked the label artwork.

I am wondering is Rebirth of the Flesh the new version we heard on SOTT DX or the original Welcome 2 The Crystal Ball outro. That is all I need to know lol.

To reassemble this album, you will need: -Sign o’ the Times Super Deluxe (For “Rebirth of the Flesh”, “Housequake”, “If I Was Your Girlfriend”, “Strange Relationship”, and “Shockadelica” -The “Partyman” 12’ Single (For “Feel U Up”) -The “Bright Lights, Big City” Soundtrack (For “Good Love”) -The Black Album (For “Rockhard in a Funky Place”) Three of these are not easily available (the latter three) or are expensive to own (SOTTSD, Black Album), and two of these (“Partyman” single and “The Black Album”) are not on streaming sites. So assembling this album is quite difficult.
None of the 'Rebirth of the Flesh' versions on the 3 different 'Camille' presings/sequences have been released officially so it's not possible to make any of these sequences ourselves. And the mixes of the tracks on all three versuons of the album are different and the some or most tracks have different edits that are also still not released. They should just press this album on an vinyl and CD for RSD or whatever so we can finally have it.

iT WOULD BE A NICE IDEA FOR A rsd RELEASE smile

On the first mastered in house pressing the full version of ROTF is on it which is a slightly longer not messed up/badly mixed and not stitched together version of the track without the Crystal Ball outro.
Teh SOTT SDE version is just two versions pasted together badly, not even on the right part it seems.
On the other two it is said that both have the Crystal Ball outro.
All three versions of the album have a different (unreleased) edit of Feel u Up and other mixes and edits on the other tracks.

Thank you very much!!

With all these reissues they can quickly cut this record for release and call it a bank day. We would all buy it.

Or we could just pay $17k+ to buy it from this auction, so that some former record executive or staffer can clean up.

Hi Joris.

How certain are you of this? I always assumed this segue was created specifically for when the album was extended from the single LP to the triple LP. It seems odd for Prince to say “Welcome to the Crystal Ball” on the album when the track ‘Crystal Ball’ wasn’t intended for it?

Unless Prince intended on releasing an album with ‘Crystal Ball’ on it later on down the line, and this segue was dropping a hint of what was to come. A bit like when he sung lyrics to ‘Superfunkycalifragisexy’ during the SOTT concert movie.

Took a whole day to find the post or email (can't remeber how I got this info) but can't find it.
I'm really certain it was that 1 sequence had the uncut ROTF version and 2 sequences had the 'Welcome to the Crystal Ball' outro.
But your making me doubt now lol It could be I'm mistaking and it;s 2 sequences with the full version and 1 sequence with the Crystal Ball edit.

I wish someone could post the full info on teh album and tracks for all of us fans instead of only to select few people. sad

Thanks saw this info from Duane yes.
Some years ago these timings were matched with the Camille album that was auctioned off by Krattingwr. That album has the same vinyl rim etchings as this one that's being auctioned now and is said to be the last version which would have been released. The first version seems to be most interesting with the most changes or the original versions of the tracks before they were edited down and slightly remixed forbthe second pressing and this third and final pressing.the first pressing was always thought to be the original Camille album until ansecond and even a third and final testpressing was unearthed and the guy with the first pressing was allowed to conpare it with third version and then someone else came with the second version with handwritten notes and they compared all three. Of course they only shared theybonlybthe details of the records among themselves (and to some here and on another popular place).

Would be cool if they'd do a Camille SDE with all the versions of the tracks that were cobsiderwd for this album.

I may have just stumbled across something here!

June 2020: The owner of versions 1 & 2 accidentally lets slip that the edits and mixes on the Camille album are different to the released versions.
(reference: https://prince.org/msg/7/...?&pg=3 )

February 2021: The owner of versions 1 & 2 states that he discovered only that week that “The Krattinger version is a different mix than mine”. When Joris asked if the owner could elaborate on these differences, the owner replied…
“Crystal Ball” ...That should tell you everything…

At the time I was still under the assumption that the final version of Camille had different edits and mixes to the released versions, as was stated in June, so the “Crystal Ball” clue didn’t make any sense to me. Now it does.

Bear in mind the owner of versions 1 and 2 was unaware of this third and final version when he claimed that the edits and mixes differed from the released versions. Now lets look at those track times again…

If we allow a few seconds grace for tape speed and fade counts...

Side One

“Rebirth Of The Flesh” (4:54) – Matches the version from ‘Crystal Ball’ with the same outro

“Housequake” (4:34) – We’ll come back to that one!

“Strange Relationship” (4:04) – Matches the version from ‘SOTT’, which is the same mix and edit used on ‘Crystal Ball’.

“Feel U Up” (6:27) – Wasn’t on ‘Crystal Ball’, but matches the 12” Long stroke.

Side Two

“Shockadelica” (6:12) – Matches the 12” version which was also used on ‘Crystal Ball’

“Good Love” [listed as “Goodlove”] (5:11) – Matches the BLBC OST version, as taken from ‘Crystal Ball’

“If I Was Your Girlfriend” (4:47) – Is the same length as the SOTT version minus the intro, as used on ‘Crystal Ball’.

“Rockhard In A Funky Place” (4:30) – Matches the version from ‘The Black Album’, taken from ‘Crystal Ball’

The only track that doesn’t match appears to be Housequake which is 8 seconds shorter (4:42 on the SOTT album). However if you compare with the time of the version on the ‘Crystal Ball’ album cassette that leaked in 2015, the running time actually matches (4:35 on the bootleg).

I’ve just compared the versions of ‘Housequake’ from the SOTT album, and the Crystal Ball bootleg. As far as the number of beats and bars go they match completely. The only difference being that the track ran slightly faster on ‘Crystal Ball’.

If Duane’s numbers are correct, then this means that all those compilations we’ve been making at home over the years were actually a true match to the final album!!!

.

If the info from Joris is accurate (that the ‘Welcome to the Crystal Ball’ outro was included on the Camille album version), and Duane’s running times are correct, then yes.

The version on PMA 004 was originally sourced from a Japanese bootleg ‘Crystal Ball (Incl. The Flesh) (Irukandji Music Ltd.) (2015)’. PMA applied a slight cleaning effect to reduce cassette noise and lowered the volume slightly. Note, the other songs on PMA 004 are sourced from various places and do not accurately reflect the ‘Crystal Ball’ album master tape.

Hopefully the reason they haven't released the 'welcome to the CB' version of ROTF is because they are planning a Camille RSD release.

Sooooo tempted. Problem is, to get it to the UK, I either have to spend $1000 to fly to the US and try and sneak it back in my hand luggage (and risk getting hit with customs duty anyway) or pay about £4k on top of the bid + the auctioneer's cut. That comes out at almost half as much again!

I suppose I could combine a trip with a visit to PP and some genealogy... and it would be an investment.
