Thank you.

I want this reissue of 'For You' for a long time.

I spinned my old way one too often since '85

So there's your own answer to your question why the re-issues stopped.

Again high prices...

Will find them a year later in the cheaper crates anyways.

Just like i did with all the other re-issues. wink

Maybe a good thing is, PARADE isn't up there... (only the yet 2016 one)

Could this be a hint for a future SDE ?

Same goes for 'Prince' and 'For You' though...

No... And it was your question, not mine!

I predicted as early as February 2021 when a so-called calendar for the estate releases leaked ( W2A in april, Crystal Ball in September, D&P for November) that it was impossible to achieve because of the vinyl crisis. It has been stated one billion times WB is keeping the soundtracks of their movies : Parade, Purple Rain, etc. So it's not a hint of anything if Sony is not writing their label on it : for once in this mess, it's completely logical. For the other albums : it's just a matter of writing the label " Sony Legacy" On the reprints of the albums already in print by WB. WB pushed back his SDEs and Sony his reissues of albums not currently in print because of the " Vinyl crisis" : shortage of raw materials, increasing costs and crazy increasing demand. So a D&P at 13/15 vinyls won't be easy to assemble, to pre order for the plants to print them, and would be far more expensive than the 260$ set for SOTT. Sony will continue his reissues at a low but hyped pace, for the RSD. The long expected Crystal Ball, initially due for the end of 2020, seems currently compromised ( surely a 6 vinyl set), even for an RSD. So I guess this would be a one single disc album never released before in stores such as SlaughterHouse. [Edited 12/7/21 2:59am] [Edited 12/7/21 3:14am]

I'm not saying you're wrong,

though you said: ''...the vinyl crisis that is fucking us all'' and i asked where you got the information from when you sais; ''This is what stopped Sony Legacy from releasing their reissues two years ago (and also weak sales...)''

Although I can agree on the weak sales at some point, true.

Still there are many many new vinyl releases every week from my experience.

There are approx. 10 record shops I visit quite regularly, and i've never heard any of the owners complain about lack of delivery on time of new or older reissued vinyl releases on their list.

They told me that for 2022/2023 there might be a problem due to covid - and that prices might go up. Assumed.

Adn maybe me and my local recordstores are wrong too.

Anyway. Happy these reissues are about to happen.

And thank you for the info on that.

Hope it really happens, though I agree with Bart that it probably is some USA import via Switserland. (Mind you all that Switserland isn't in the European Union group)

Expensive indeed, more or less the same prices as the previous reissues in fact.

So nothing changed. But I'm patient.

[Edited 12/8/21 1:50am]

I insist that every one of these "reissue" Were already available for years in the format they will be released next February.

Sony is just sticking his label on it.

Ok : you just don't want to buy it online. I wish you more luck to find it in stores now.

Bart : no, the current For You vinyl has been reissued around 2015/2016.
In case you didn't know, vinyl format was practically banned from wreckastores from 1991 until the middle of the 2000's.

And many catalogue albums drom prestigious artists weren't reissued until mid 2010, including Prince catalogue. Some classic albums haven't even been reprinted at all since the 80's.

There's a very nice label called 'Music On Vinyl' which is re-releasing older stuff on vinyl, all the time.

For You vinyl has been hard to find in stores and online at a decent price the last couple years. I have my old vinyl that I bought in the 80s and I would welcome an update.

I’d be pretty excited if the absence of any versions of D&P/Love Symbol on that page is an indicator that they’ll be reissuing both on CD and vinyl later in the year. There’s probably a much more mundane reason for it, but I can dream. lol

...évidemment, les villes moyennes Français,

comme si j’y venais tous les jours. LOL

I was in the city of Lille last month, did three lazy record shops, couldn't find a thing.

Although FNAC had some resonable priced stuff.

Did spend some time in Paris too... not easy to find Prince stuff there either.

And when there''s something to find, it's seriously overprised mostly, plus in poor condition.

My experience in Germany, Denmark and Sweden are far better.

Great to dig some old vinyl crates.

We could speculate more on this, because something about this D&P SDE always bugged me.
IIRC, WB had the full worldwide rights on his catalogue until the end of 2020, I maybe wrong on this. Then some of the rights would have reverted back to Sony.

So WB's logical choice would have been to release a Parade SDE in 2021, because they had full rights on this soundtrack, and they had already worked on it.

So when D&P was announced last February by the french site Schkopi, they speculated something like" It seems after all that WB got an extra year, maybe they negotiated because of the Covid crisis. So they re not in a hurry to release one of their soundtrack for the moment "

If it was true, then, why WB didn't do everything they could to release it in 2021? Did Sony vetoed it because they were contractually fucked?

If it was wrong, then why WB didn't release Parade instead of...nothing ?

Sony had its releases this year with W2A and the Truth. WB hadn't, besides the uneventful Purple Rain remaster.

Did WB argue that D&P was the soundtrack of the video collection of the same name?
Did they argue the same thing for Lovesymbol, that it was the soundtrack of 3 Chains of Gold? 😂

Again, does somebody here could answer : who owns Come in vinyl, Black Album, Exodus, Newpowersoul, Kamasutra ( which was part of Crystal Ball, that currently belongs to Sony, despite using the WB vault ) ?

Maybe there's still a legal battle between Sony and WB, and they prevent each other to release this or that.

Maybe it's one big boxset, as those albums are kinda linked e.g. The only two albums with the full original NPG line-up sans Rosie on prince

D&P and Lovesymbol are from two completely different sessions.
He practically didn't record anything for Lovesymbol before the release of D&P. Some exceptions could be found here and there though : The Flow was recorded during the D&P sessions.
So original demo of The Flow could well appear on D&P SDE.

For these two albums, Prince recorded it from scratch, without using vault tracks. The exact opposite of Graffiti Bridge, which was a flop Prince wanted to avoid again.

The previous vinyl reissue campaign (from 2011 if I'm not mistaken) stopped at SOTT so I'm looking forward to getting brand new copies of Lovesexy onwards on vinyl.

IIRC it began late 2015, beginning of 2016. It stopped at SOTT, you re right.
At least Black Album and Lovesexy were scheduled for the end of 2016, then delayed, then cancelled.

Again, at the time I was very perplexed and expressed it here they could release Black Album in vinyl, but not in CD.
It appeared they couldn't do any of them.

Dr Funkenberry is indicating that the Estate has intentions to include Love Symbol outtakes in the Diamonds & Pearls SDE, so you may well be right.

I just hope the Act I, III and III tours are also released on video on some medium as they are too good to miss and arguably superior live performances than the D&P tour.

I believe he only begrudgingly agreed to allow WB to release TBA to get out of his contract.

I've seen speculation that there was an agreement at the time that it would be a one-time only release with no re-releases permitted. As far as I know that's simply speculation with no facts to back it up (nevertheless, I wouldn't be totally surprised if it turned out to be true). It could also simply be that the Estate knows Prince was unhappy about that album being commericially available and are trying to be respectful.

Bart, there is nothing in the article you cite that contradicts what I wrote.

1.) It says the release was negotiated to "fulfill part of his contractual obligations"... which is exactly what I said.

2.) It aslo says "This didn't mean that Prince was all that happy with its release"... which is exactly what I said.

3.) Finally, the article is silent on whether there was a "one-time release" stipulation. Therefore, as I said, there is no factual evidence that such stipulation exists.

So this article supports (rather than contradicts) all of the points I made. What exactly do you think I got wrong? Please enlighten me.

There are plenty of second hand copies of For You (and most of Prince's albums up until the mid 90's) available at decent prices (not at the bargain prices from before his death but still...) all over the world. Why not save some money and get one of those? That way you're also not encouraging this ridiculous reissue/remaster frenzy that isn't helping matters during the current global vinyl delay. wink

A one-off deal at one million $ to print how many copies? How do you define "one-off"?
Again : what label currently owns The Black Album?

You have absolutely no idea.
