just a limited vinyl run of the 2015 paisley park remaster (only the original album). nothing special.

Oh, I see. sad

Btw, I never understood why they didn't include the vault album in the vinyl version of the Purple Rain deluxe. It makes no sense to me, and I can't be the only vinyl buyer that passed on that one because of that. Hopefully they'll correct that with a future SDE release.

CD's still outsell vinyl 8 to 1. Vinyl gets the promotion because they can price gouge.

I said singles.

Thats sales, not volume. Vinyl is more profitable because of the high prices people are willing to pay.

It's volume now too. In the first six months of this year in the US vinyl sold 19.2 million units (up 108%) compared to 18.9 million CDs (up 2%). Vinyl's continued growth rate and the CD's continued decline made this inevitable.

I really only listen digitally now, but I guess the CD has died, because in many ways 'we' were only getting them for the pristine digital sound and the booklet/artwork - but now the digital sound is available via streaming or mp3 - so that only leaves the artwork - but that is really catered for by the vinyl now. So I can see why CD is slowly going the way of the dinosaur! (I still buy Prince albums on CD if avialable but no other artists!).

uhh, it's definitely not "pristine digital" if it's only digitally available MP3 or streaming...

Unless a FLAC or WAV is available for purchase somewhere.

Interesting to note that this is being released by Warner, not Sony. Lots of folks around here have been running with the idea that it’s all Sony’s show from now on (other than soundtracks), but it seems that’s not the case.

I repeat for months that all the unreleased stuff recorded by Prince between 78-95 is always owned by WBR & not Sony ...if Sony wants to release something from this era ...they need agreements from WBR/The Estate !!

If that is indeed the case then it begs these questions.

1. Why the 1999 SUPER DELUXE isn't available to purchase truly anymore. Like it's out of print. If WBR had exclusivity over this it would seem logical they would make it more available.

SIDE A
Do Me Baby

SIDE B
etching

What kind of thievery is " Etching "? A new track 😂?

I missed the opportunity to buy the audio cassette. 10$ seemed like a bargain.

But yhen I thought :
1) they were gonna charge that price just for the shipping export costs
2) It s only 5 minutes of music. They didn't even bore to give another mix or the original track on the B-side
3) really terrible artwork
4) only available on Prince store, and many consumers complained that never received their products, while being charged nevertheless.

So fuck them.

I won't pay 30$ neither to get one demo on vinyl, that's insane.
If I saw the audio cassette or even the vinyl at a correct price in stores, I would have bought it for sure.

But like for The Truth, I m not going to fight for a product that to me is not easy to listen to, and that I think should be available in stores at a reasonable price, just like for every album in the world.

If the estate is going exclusively that way now, as it seems they completely gave up on classic CD releases, then it's going to be a problem for me.
Even W2A was coupled with 2 overpriced vinyls I didn't care about, to get the blu-ray.

1999 SDE is still available in stores in France.

But these kind of products are difficult to reprint because of the one of a kind packaging.
That's why I m saying for the last 8 months that it was pure trolling to expect a D&P release in 2021.

They need months of preorders to adjust the numbers of copies to print (preorders + stores). Because it would be too expensive to relrin them in the future.

Almost right. It looks like 78-94 for WBR, plus Old Friends 4 Sale, the vault album recorded between '85 and '94. And then later on, the albums Art Offical Age, PlectrumElectrum.

WBR owns nothing from 1994.
Neither TMBGITW, nor Black Album, nor Come.

paraded

Like so many of the demos released so far, this one makes me appreciate just how brilliant his official version is. This demo is so sweet sounding, so innocent. The official version has two crucial improvements for me. One, he's singing in the most paper thin, slightly distorted vocals, which no one has ever quite matched in intimacy. Maximum intensity from minimal output. And second, he does these wails that go from extreme high notes back down to his chest voice, which totally changes the effect to a master of seduction.

But it's amazing how he had the structure of the arrangement down at this point. It's beautifully done.

Exactly.

Great release, happy with it.

But the cover design... we already had that. His handwriting, the black and purple, etc.

They could've done an alternative pic from the cover shoot for one of the released singles...

And why an etched B-side? For what reason ?

Honestly, why not the raw unmixed version on the B-side ?

I don’t wanna do it! Just can’t…………… I don’t wanna say that I like this better than the official Do Me, Baby studio track….. that would be blasphemous!
BUT….. at first listen i felt underwhelmed (“ok ok he’s just going through the motions.. this is the melody and overall vibe, here’s a guide vocal.. bleh”)

But the more i listen to this, the more i love it!…
The synths and the straight-forward drum programming have a certain charm to it.. and his voice sounds just great… sounds like a more wholesome, soulful falsetto delivery (i.e. “i just can’t wait no more”) versus the more out-there, master delivery in the 1981 version……

Yeah i still love the ‘81 version the best……….. because that’s the superior version… but yeah I’m really digging this

It's 2021 and Prince fans still can't figure out where you can buy lossless music online. I mean, it's not like previous releases have been available in CD quality or even Hi-Res quality on sites like Qobuz or Tidal or HiResAudio or HDTracks (perhaps even iTunes?). It's not like there are search engines where you can enter the words "where to buy lossles smusic" and find articles that list various online stores.

.

Nope, they cannot figure that out for themselves. Need it to be spoonfed to them. And then completely forget about ever receiving such information so they can whine all over again when the next release comes along.

Fades to early! smile it's a good sing-a-long version - it's much easier to sing it in the most comfortable register to you.

PS yes i know FLAC, WAV, WMA, AAC...are prisitine quality as opposed to streaming and mp3, but I was just trying to get the idea across that most people now listen to digital music electronically delivered rather than CD. Anyway...

Buy it or

don't buy it.

Yes i somtimes think some items are overpriced too.

But I buy the stuff anyways.

Because Prince stuff always kind of makes me happy.

And that's why I earn money, to pay for overprised Prince stuff. wink

Just stop complaining over the price.

The after-whining will never ever change the price, ever!

In the future vinyl and CD prices will only go up!

And they will go seriously up from what i read.

I’ve done my own b-side: Neurotic Lover’s Bedroom (Demo). The estate should have have put it on the vinyl and issued a statement saying they’d been trying to continue the pretence that Prince had this masterful statesman-like mind with a wealth of political and social awareness. However, having sifted through the boxes of tapes in the vault they’ve come to the conclusion most of the unreleased stuff is just filth, depraved and perverted. And the next release will be a double b-side of the original versions of Extralovable and Lust U Always.

Won’t happen.
